So, I've Bent Three Punches So Far...
« on: June 02, 2016, 04:06:41 PM »
I'm flummoxed. I've destroyed three punches so far trying to remove the trigger pin from my new to me CZ75. Any hints? I'm a reasonably intelligent guy but I'm stumped. There must be some sort of voodoo of which i am unaware?

Wow, maybe apply a small amount of heat, then cool, to loosen up whatever is causing the binding?

Usea roll pin punch of the right size.  Make sure you look carefully at the ends of the roll pin.  Punch the end that is flared the LEAST.  Usually one end is slightly more flared than the other.
Replace the roll pin with either the CZC solid TP or the CGW floating solid trigger pin. Both are easy to install and/or remove.

Wait a minute?!?

So you're saying use the correct tool?

Sheesh!

Actually I cannot discern a flare on either end. I got the pin out from starboard to port about 1/8". I guess I need to quit buying punches at Harbor Freight.

And I have my CGW order delivery tomorrow.

I did get that punch, yes.

I'm hearing that this isn't a rare occurrence? Sounds like a couple of you have had to really whack at this pin?

I've owned a few CZ pistols, but I haven't ever taken one down to the frame. I don't wanna jack it up.

I've never needed a starter punch on a 75 trigger pin,  but.....if needed,  nice to have.

There you go . . .  There are some things that are worth saving on and buying at HF.  Other things . . .  not so much.   ;)

I've needed a starter punch one time on a 75 trigger pin. Only took one whack before finishing with a roll pin punch.

Mine came out easily. It was laying on the bed, and it took only a few taps.

I guess some are different.

Well, okay. 5 punches, and a scratch. I finally removed it. It isn't a roll pin. I took a brass 1/4" punch and sent it back into the frame, used the starter from CGW, then a pin punch...whew. It's a good thing I'm refinishing this pistol, i have the opportunity to buff out the scratch.

No it is not a roll pin. The factory pin when new is straight and solid with an indent on either end which is flared over after installation hence the need for a starter punch. They can be no fun but this experience will certainly help you next time you do one of these.

Without make too much out of this... you are saying this is a more or less solid pin w/ a hollow at each end to allow the pin to be staked w/ a punch after assembly ? That explains a lot to me about why this pin is such a pain if that's the case. Sounds like the forward sling loop screw on a Garand. Once it's peened over it's almost impossible to remove.
