Hi Everyone,
This message should find everyone safe and healthy. I am very happy to be here.  I have been shooting rifles since I was 7 year old and I am a ex combat decorated vet.  So I have had my brand new 2016 p01 omega for about a month now.  FYI my first pistol.  I feel I 100% hands down choose the right pistol. Including todays shooting I have put around 300 bullets through her.  My situation is, today was my third day at the range.  up till today the other 2 time I was there I only used G96 synthetic gun oil.  this being my 18 hour/ 7 days a week carry I saw or felt that the oil just did not last long enough.  so today before I went to the range I oiled my gun well but not over done and used some tetra gun grease on the rails, slide, ect.  Half way though my time at the range I had fail to load on my first cocking of a full magazine.  I just smacked the back of the slide with my hand and it fed into the barrel and I continued.  I think that I pulled it back with enough force.   Maybe the grease was to heavy for a p01?
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

First, thank you so much for your service.

Second, I'm super jealous you have one of the new P01's.  I may put an order in for one here soon.  I would love to hear your thoughts on how the new P01's are, since you've had a chance to shoot it a few times now.  :)

With regard to your question, ;D what I do to clean and lube my guns, is I usually clean them with just Breakfree CLP, or hit them first with some ISO Alcohol if they're really dirty, then CLP after the ISO.

Then when they're nice and clean I wipe them down pretty good to remove any excess CLP so they're relatively dry at this point.  Then for the lube, you might laugh but I really like how this works on my guns, I hit all the parts that need lube with a very thin coat 20w50 racing oil (the one I found here at an auto parts store down the street is Valvoline).

I just really like how the racing oil provides a nice smooth action, sticks and coats very well, and provides much the same kind of feel as a light grease, but doesn't goop up like grease can do.  Also, I've had several extended sessions at the range where I was putting a lot of rounds through my P09 very quickly, and the gun got quite hot a couple of times.  The oil held up great, never bogged down in the lease, and maintained it's nice smooth feel all the way through the sessions, probably 350 or so rounds worth.

So, I know there are an infinite number of methods for cleaning guns out there, but I just can't say enough good things about the racing oil.  I figure if it's made to protect engine components at the RPMs a racing engine sees and sustains, it should protect my pistols pretty darn well.

I've  been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil (10W30, 10W40, 5W20, etc., etc. - it's left overs in the bottom of the jug after oil changes in my vehicles and I mix it all up in a qt. bottle and then transfer it to my little squeeze bottles for lubing guns) for about 4 or 5 years.

Works great on my handguns and rifles (and shotguns, but I don't shoot them much).  If it will protect and lubricate my car/truck engines at the heat/loads they work at, it'll protect my guns as they operate at much lower rpms (rounds per minute or rpm, take your pick) and much lower heat.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I've had good results with Break Free CLP as well, and am transitioning to Mobile 1 like M1A4ME. I used to use CGW grease on the rails but not anymore. I've also cut back on cleaning my pistols obsessively.

First, THANK YOU for your service to our country.  It is much appreciated.

Second, congrats on the new firearm.  May you have many trouble-free years from her.

I use Hoppe's #9 to clean and oil everything but the slide.  For the slide my local smith recommended Birchwood Casey RIG Universal.  He said it's better to err on the side of slightly too little, than putting on too much.

So I clean everything with Hoppe's cleaner, then wipe down with a lightly oiled cloth (also Hoppe's), and put a VERY small dab of RIG on the grooves of the slide and rack it several times.  So far my T120 and C100 have had zero issues and about 2000 rounds between them.  Very smooth, very reliable.

Agree with the above posts.  I probably wouldn't use grease. Just whatever light oil you prefer or have should be fine.  I use a bottle with a needle applicator and just use a few drops. I cycle the slide a few times after assembly to make sure it is spread evenly.  A one time malfunction shouldn't worry you at this point though.  I don't really judge my handguns until they have at least 500 rounds through them.  You kinda need to get to know them a little.  You have a fine pistol, enjoy it.
