John here's your barrel - the RPK of vz.58s?
« on: June 03, 2016, 12:19:59 PM »
Elongated vz.58 -- (about 8" longer barrel), but is it heavier wall?.
Caption of pic says: vz.43.
(was this a typo?)

Model ("Vzor" or Vz.) number usually designated YEAR of acceptance/approval and/or first year of manufacturing.

Quote
...gun (barrel) elongated by 200mm and the buttstock type is RPK,  7.62x39 mm vz.43

Samopal Vz.58, Jiri Fencl, ISBN 80-206-0765-X
pp.128

CP, Are these barrels available to us poor folks or was this just an informational posting?
Love to play with fast women, sharp knives & loud guns, if the wife says it's okay....

He's probably referring to what we call the "M43" Soviet cartridge. In other words, it should be read as  "7.62x39, M43"

"vz" is short for "vzor" which means "pattern" or "model".  M43 is the type of 7.62x39 cartridge.

I had to think a few times to get what Orpheus was saying...

I think the "Obr" stands for "obr?zek" which means "picture" or "photo"...

Believe first pic caption roughly translates to (with major help from google translate):
"Small arm KLEC (KLEK appearing to be the name of the picture rifle) with an 200mm extended machine gun barrel and RPK type buttstock.  Charge/cartridge 7.62x39 M43."

Second pic is basically saying it's a VZ58 with an extended barrel.
