CZ P07 & Cajun Gun Works hammer spring?
« on: June 14, 2016, 06:42:09 PM »
I was wondering what the weight of the stock P07 hammer spring is vs. the Cajun Gun Works "Yellow 18# hammer spring"?  I'd certainly like a lighter DA pull, but want to maintain reliability and the positive DA weight (I want it lighter, but not too light).  Also, does adding the "reduced power trigger return spring" make a noticeable difference in the DA pull.

Stock hammer spring is 20# I believe. If you swap out the hammer spring you should also upgrade the FP spring and (at least consider) the extended FP.

The reduced power TRS shaves 1/2 a pound off of the DA pull and is considered more reliable than the stock part.

Just curious, why is it recommended that the FP spring be replaced when using the 18# hammer spring?  Is the stock FP spring too heavy for the lighter 18# hammer spring, and will it cause light strikes?  Also, what benefit is there to an extended FP?

I'd certainly like some upgrades for the DA pull, but I don't want to get out of control and find myself spending a bunch of money on upgrades.  I already fell into that trap with a couple of my Glocks.

Thanks again.

Correction--You can run a 17# (not 15#) hammer spring with a stock firing pin and firing pin spring.  Try a 17# hammer spring.  That may be all you need.  The light CGW trigger spring is also something to try.  Both pretty inexpensive.  I have this combination in a P-07, and no problems with light strikes.  I haven't tried any S&B ammo, however.  If you want to lower the single action pull or smooth it out some, get a CGW hammer.  That is all I've done to a P-07 and I'm very happy with it.  I even shot a bullseye match with it.

Thanks!  Curious that a 15# hammer spring can use the stock FP spring, but with an 18# spring it's suggested to use the CGW lighter FP spring?  I just want to make sure I'm doing the right combo before ordering anything.

David @ CGW recommends the FP spring upgrade when you change the hammer spring to avoid light strikes...He also suggested the extended firing pin as part of this upgrade for the same reason.

Not saying it can't/won't work with the stock FP spring - just saying you may have issues.

I defer to the CGW website instructions linked above.  I only use weak primer ammo so I don't have any problems with the light hammer spring and the stock firing pin and firing pin spring.  I should probably change the firing pin spring in mine, too!!   (I checked my notes and corrected the post above.  I put a well used 17# hammer spring out of a 75B in my P-07, not a 15#)
