From the photo, the lips do look wider on the older magazine.  It's rather common to find this on well used magazines, they are easily squeezed back into spec.

That mark is a proof mark of a lion standing on it's hind legs with a paw in the air and a letter N, for nitro proofed.  This mark is very often quite weak and hard to decipher.

Thanks everybody. I'm going to give adjusting the old magazine's feed lips a try, because I finally took the new magazine to the range and it functioned flawlessly.

I haven't picked up a new magazine yet - any recommendations on sources?

I've been thoroughly cleaning and checking parts and I'm pretty sure at this point that it's a magazine issue. I don't really have tools to accurately adjust the feed lips, other than taking a pair of pliers and praying that I get it right. Then again, if the mag doesn't function right as it is now, I guess it couldn't hurt.

Still, I'd like to have a good magazine. Where can I buy a reliable one?

Sportsman's Guide and Lanbo's Armory sell them, too.

CZ-USA sells magazines for the vz82/CZ83. They are pricey, but they work perfectly.
