First Range Session With CZ P-07 FDE 9mm - WOWZEE
« on: June 25, 2016, 04:44:36 PM »
I finally got to the range today and shot 165 rounds through my new P-07 FDE.  The first magazine had one failure to chamber and it was a Hornady Critical Defense round, the 5th round in the magazine.  I cleared the gun, re-loaded that particular round and from that point on I had no failures of any kind through the rest of the 165 rounds.  I only used the 2 magazines that came with the gun but have 6 more coming in from CZUB.  I'm going to change 2 of the magazines over to 17 rounders with the extended baseplates that came with the gun.

Ammo tested was:
Unknown hollow point (bullet was silver)
Hornady Critical Defense - my main supply of defensive ammo
American Eagle
PMC
S&B

I don't shoot for extreme accuracy any more due to poor eyesight (and I don't want to spend money on custom shooting glasses).  All handgun sights are fuzzy at best so center of mass, within a 3" circle is fine with me (but those shots that go in the same hole sure are nice).  I was able to achieve good defensive groups out to 25 yards so I'm happy.

I've owned/shot lots and lots of different brand handguns and must say that this P-07 is a soft shooter and the single action trigger was great.  I'm just very much taken aback as to how a gun at this price point ended up being so easy and fun to shoot as well as being accurate.  She's a keeper for sure and is tagged to be my carry gun.

Now to the bad part  ;)  I want another one for my house gun and thought I may as well get something a little different that I'll also use most of the time at the range.  I have my sights set on a P-07 Urban Grey because I think the high night sights may work for me a little better at the range and would be fine for home defense if need be.  I don't have a 9mm suppressor and while I love shooting my .22s suppressed, I think that buying a suppressor for just one handgun isn't too prudent for me (would rather buy more ammo).  With that said, it doesn't hurt to have the second gun be a little different.

I've been known to buy "duplicates" many times in the past and could get another P-07 FDE but something about that darn Urban Grey is calling my name and I can get it for a little less than another P-07 FDE.  I don't want fullsize P-09 because I always end up selling my larger guns in favor of the compacts.

Once I settle in with the P-07 I'll post some targets and more info on other ammo like Winchester White Box and some mixed defensive/hollow points that I have laying around, results of the 17 round mags, etc.

Great to hear. Wouldn't be to worried about that first mag hiccup.

I was going to mention the 09 for a second option but you stated you didn't like full-sized. The 09 would be great for home defense and range use.

I read somewhere that the only difference in the 07 and 09 was a longer grip (and of course a longer barrel), that the grip, trigger reach, etc. was the same.  If that's true (the grip isn't any wider, just longer) and the gun would basically feel the same in my hand as the 07 then for range and home use maybe the P09 FDE would work. But I wanted both guns to have interchangeable magazines also, so guess I'm back to the P-07 Urban Grey.  I think the P09 mags will fit in the P07 but the P07 won't fit in the P09, correct?

Correct.

Yes, I saw that one and emailed them to clarify that it came with two 17 round mags and they responded that it only comes with one 15 round mag.  If I add back the price of another mag plus a couple of extended bases it comes out about the same as another one I found.  However, I don't really need the mags so I may still buy that one.

Thanks

The mags would be a 15 round mag plus the "plus 2" mag extension, making it 17 rounds.

Was not aware of the "only one mag", every other place offers 2 mags. I would question the reply you got from them, it doesn't sound right.

The others I found come with two 17 round mags (15 rounders with extended base pads).  I did question the one 15 round mag and he said that's what comes with their gun (maybe that's why it's $466).  My only complaint is that they should state how many mags and what capacity comes with the gun although not everyone does.  That's why I normally email to verify certain things such as mags and sights.  I told him I'd have to pass since the gun didn't come with 2 extended mags and he said ok, thanks.  I guess I could ask again.

You're right, they should state the one mag. That is being pretty sneaky on their part, and explains why their prices are always lower. But when you add back in the cost for the second mag, it puts their price higher than the others. I would think twice about doing business with a company that uses tactics like this. I have referred a lot of people to them, but never again.

Their ad states "15 round suppressor ready" and I just checked the specs and it does say capacity is 15+1.  That is why I emailed them about 17 round mags, i thought maybe it was a mistake.  Still, they could clarify that it only comes with one 15 round mag rather than two.  I've purchased from them before and everything was fine.

Sounds like it is a "Special Version" that they ordered from CZ. As CZ states "Note- Some CZ-USA dealers order special versions that vary from the standard configuration." Then again, if it is a "Special Version", they should state it.

Anyways, wish you luck on your venture in finding one. I have the P-07 Urban Grey and really like it a lot. I'm also fairly new to CZs and agree with your statement "I'm just very much taken aback as to how a gun at this price point ended up being so easy and fun to shoot as well as being accurate.  She's a keeper for sure and is tagged to be my carry gun.".
