Scope grooves on a Kadet
« on: February 14, 2003, 09:47:14 PM »
Okay, here's a question for all you amateur gunsmith types.  Most .22LR rifles have grooved receivers to accept a special type of rimfire scope mounts.  Recently I've noticed some red dot sights with rimfire mounts.  Would it be possible to have the top of the Kadet grooved to accept one of these rimfire mounts?  Please don't just guess. Measure them please, and be certain of your answer.

If you are looking to mount a red dot on your kadet I would find a short weaver rail that could be mounted to your kadet via 2 or 4 small screws once it is drilled and tapped and get a weaver mount red dot instead of 7/8 rail.  Personally I think open sights are more precise on a pistol than a red dot and I wouldn't want to mar the finish on my kadet but to each his own.  A weaver base would only require that your upper be mounted in a mill/drill machine.  Another option might be a grip mounted scope adaptor if such a thing is available for CZs. mapdude

Mounting a small Weaver rail was actually my first idea, but I like to keep things as simple as possible and grooving the top of the receiver to accept the 3/8ths inch rimfire mounts seems to be the simplest way to go.  As a matter of fact, tonight I noticed the rib along the top of the Kadet is just about 3/8ths of an inch wide.  It's possible a rimfire scope will clamp to that rail tightly enough to hold a small red dot in place.

As for iron sights being more precise, not in my experience.  I can always shoot much tighter groups with a red dot than with iron sights.  At least, that's the way it was with my Ruger pistols.
