So I recently picked up a suppressor ready urban grey P-01 omega. I waited (like many others I'm sure) for well over a year for CZ to release this pistol. Originally I wanted the black one but on a last minute whim I went with the grey. This is my second CZ. I picked up a P-09 duty about 2 years ago and sold an EAA Sar k2p before that.
Out of the box this thing is a looker. The color is a little darker than it appears online and the black on grey sets it off. I was worried about the height of the sights, but they are not obnoxious and seem very easy to get on target. My guess is they are only 3 or 4mm taller than normal sights.
First trip to the range and the range officer couldn't get enough of it. Hell, I couldn't either! I definitely made at least one new CZ fan that day. I could go on about how good it feels and how well it shoots, but I'm in a CZ forum so it's like preaching to the choir.. Haha.
So my first impressions are making me love most everything about this pistol. One exception, I wish the thumb safety had a little more meat on it. I have learned how to sweep it successfully and consistently but still wish there was just a little more there to get a hold of.
Ok fast forward 2 weeks and I'm ready to see just how well it performs with a suppressor. I met up with a friend last weekend who has a legal homebrew can. I had some 135gr reloads, rated at about 900fps.
First thing we noticed was that the barrel threaded too far into the can. This became evident when racking the slide and it wouldn't return to battery. The guide rod protrudes and tilts during the racking sequence, gets hung on the suppressor, where it binds up during the slide's forward movement, stopping the slide.
We found a washer to use as a can spacer, which did the trick. No more guide rod binding. Is this the fix? Or would an aluminum guide rod do the trick? Not if it's the same length or longer it won't. Maybe a few MM's can be filed off the end of the guide rod? I dunno..
First shot fired but failed to eject the spent case. Hand racked, fire, fail to eject, and repeat... So the recoil spring needs changed. I get it, no biggie, but this thing is supposed to be "suppressor ready".
Now this doesn't change how I feel about the P-01. Forget about the suppressor woes and I still love it. Just a little disappointed about how it's being sold and marketed.
I may be interested in trading the barrel and taller night sights for a shorter barrel and factory height night sights, if anyone is interested. These weren't the key selling points for me when I bought it anyway, I was more interested in the grey finish and 16rd mags.
