Extended firing pin
« on: July 01, 2016, 07:58:43 PM »
I had my P01 worked on by CZ Custom who did an amazing job, but the lighter spring is causing light strikes on my Kadet kit.  I've heard an extended firing pin helps alleviate the problem, but I can't find one anywhere.  Does anyone still make these?  I'd prefer not to have to switch out the springs when switching between 9mm and .22LR.

People have tried all kinds of tricks but I am afraid it is simple physics.  The pin has to hit the rim hard enough to crush the rim and ignite the primer material.   You will need a 17# spring for 100% ignition.  A 15# generally, not always, will result in 90% ignition.  Maybe a little better with shims and certain ammo.

I converted mine to SAO and use the 17# all the time.  This was after several months of switching the hammer spring back and forth so I could keep the gun DA/SA with the light DA pull from a 13# spring.  A 13# hammer spring will not work reliably with the Kadet slide, no matter what you try.  At least that is my experience.  And I have a lot of experience.

If you have to leave the gun DA/SA and like the light DA pull, plan on switching out the hammer spring.  If you can compromise on the DA pull, put in a 17# hammer spring and leave it.

Yeah I figured as much.  I'd just like to try the pin first to see if it improves things.

I don't think an extended Kadet firing pin is even available anymore. These guys aren't steering you wrong.

Joe, did the 17# spring change the pull weight on your single action receiver? I will be installing a Kadet kit on my 75SA soon. I plan to install a 17 # spring on it.

With a CGW hammer, the hammer spring weight won't hardly affect the single action pull.  With a stock hammer that cams when you pull the trigger, it will affect the pull some.  Mine has over 40k rounds on it, and pull can be as light as 2 lbs with a 17# spring.  Too light for me.  Mine is set a little over 2.5 lbs with the 9mm slide (with heavy firing pin block spring) and a little over 2.0 with the Kadet slide (no firing pin block).

I'm having the same light strikes using Kadet 2 on the P01 Urban Gray (great gun).

So the solution is to change the hammer spring from ????# to 17#, right?

What is involved, how to, change the hammer spring?

I found by trial and error that the Kadet slide stop used on the P01 will prevent the slide from racking back. I installed the P01 slide top, racks fine.

Also, which slide top is used for the slide to lock open after last round.

To change a hammer spring you need to remove the grips, push the hammer spring plug in to release pressure on the pin, slide the pin out and then remove the mag brake from the plug, then the plug and spring. Reverse to replace. Cajun Gunworks sells 'The Joe Tool' to make the job really simple.

Call CZ USA. They should send you a free slide stop for use on the P01.
Watch the video in this web store link.
http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/01610_Cz-75-Kadet-Adapter-Cal-22-Lr-Black-Polycoat
About 1:12 into the Video they state that when used on a P01 you "need the PCR slide stop. It can be acquired at NO cost".
