CZ P09 IDPA match
« on: July 02, 2016, 10:29:17 PM »
Today was the day! I decided to take a bit of a break in competition with my beloved Glock 34 and put my new beloved, my CZ P09, through her paces and see how well it would do in a match.

In typical fashion I defaulted to muscle memory twice but recovered well enough to finish 5th out of 44 shooters overall and only hit a snag through 1 stage that cost me at least 2 more spots. All errors were mental...the P09 was flawless! Ran cocked & locked single-action mode for ESP division. I can live with the trigger straight out of the box and while I really like the P09 factory sights I missed my fiber optic front so that will be the next addition.

Just for the sake of full disclosure I'm running my P09 in a Comp-Tac international holster & 2 Comp-Tac single-mag carriers...147 grain plated Everglades bullets over 3.2 grains of Titegroup. I'd post a pic but can't figure out how :D

Super! I've also been shooting my P09 in IDPA this year somewhat successfully as I've been posting here. I'm very satisfied with the P09 (stock except for a FO front sight). Been using a blade tech OWB holster and Ready Tactical mag holders.

Recoil management is super easy, front sight barely moves w/ the 124 grain rounds I'm using.

All in all, this gun will never leave me.

Congrats again

Glad it worked out for you.

I have been running a P-09 and a P-07 (CCP) for the last year or two. Really great guns and they point so well for me.

I have the CGW rear and FO Combo on both of mine along with a bunch of CGW parts too for a really smooth trigger and reset.

Have fun!

Thanks for the sight recommendations. I've been checking out CGW looking for which parts to get so I might have to make an order with sights and other stuff. Right now trying to stock up on P09 mags... I'll be glad when somebody starts making aftermarket mags... $43 each is ouchy!

I am doubtful that will happen... Mec-Gar makes the CZ-branded mags and even if they were to decide to release their own branded mags (as they did with standard CZ75 mags) they usually match the price of factory mags within a few dollars.

FWIW, it is a lot like HK. HK is the only source for HK mags and they go on sale for $40-ish ;-/

Greg Cote is a great source for CZ mags at a good price and CZ-USA sales are also a great time to stock up.

I've bought Wilson Combat 1911 mags so spending a few $$$ on good quality stuff isn't something I'm new to, but after years of buying Glock mags it hurts a bit more LOL

I felt so dirty but Cheaper Than Dirt had them for $37.50 but the dogs sold me 2 and then said they only had one and refunded me the cost of the other... so I went back to CZ Custom and bought another...brings me up to 5 so I can comfortably do some heavy shooting now.

Shot the P09 in another IDPA match Saturday... I'll be bleeped if I don't love this gun more and more every time I pull the trigger!

I feel the same way all this season. Shooting the P09 at this Sat's match, I came in second in the SSP division & 5th overall. Am really enjoying this gun.

Well done! We had a hell of a good match Saturday on our new pistol bays. We are doing berm upgrades and we did some cool stuff on some bays and I'm feeling pretty good about where I finished in ESP.

Another good IDPA day with my P09. Came in 2nd in my division, 17th over all out of 72 shooters (all divisions). For me that's quite good.

This gun has never failed me, is accurate & has neglible recoil, especially helpful in the weak hand only strings........

Nice!!! bleep fine work!

We got our results from last week's match and I had the match of my life with the CZ P-09. Finished 1st out of 35-40 running in ESP cocked & locked. Biggest help was only going down 9 points through 7 stages!

Added the Dawson black rear and FO front. Got the .170" and it is shooting a bit low for me so probably going to see if their Perfect Impact guaranty will work and I'll add the slightly shorter front to get my shots right where the dot it. The more I shoot this thing the more I absolutely love it! Only bad part is now I'm going to have to spend the money to get the P07 and maybe even another P09 in Urban Gray LOL

Congrats on your 1st place!

I like the P09 so much, I recently got a P01 Omega. While I haven't taken it out to the range yet (next week!) I am pleased with it thus far.
