Ultra Lux / Training Rifle. Beyond longer sight radius...
« on: July 04, 2016, 06:14:28 AM »
Do the looooong barrels add velocity and/or accuracy at 75' range / target use?  I'm assuming they would be quieter in .22LR as the powder has the maximum available distance to burn before the bullet leaves the barrel, but is it worth the precision (?) velocity (?) over a standard length barrel?

I'm assuming that CZ wouldn't make them just for looks!

Check rimfire central, but IMO all they add is the sight radius .  They are well made guns no doubt.  I have a special and love it.  I believe 22 powder is designed to be totally burnt in the first 16" of barrel.

What are you going to use it for?

I have both.  The UL does offer the best sight radius if using open sights.  If using a scope, both are similar.  The UL does have a check piece where the trainer/lux does not.

Not sure about velocity, both mine are extremely accurate with the right ammo.  The neat thing with the UL is that if you use subsonic ammo, it's almost as quiet as a 22 with a suppressor.

the sight radius is frequently mentioned , besides that for me its the stock shape in conjunction with the long barrel make for what I would consider the ultra lux excels at and was conceived for is offhand  shooting with iron sights .

I believe standard velocity ammo get max velocity in 14" barrel. High Velocity rounds in a little longer. 16" is to satisfy the legal minimum rifle barrel length.
Long sight radius and extra weight of the barrel for off hand shooting are the main benefits.
I own and shoot matches with many CZ rimfires. 452 UltraLux is my favorite for iron sight off hand, CZ 452 Varmint for offhand scoped, 452 American 16" scoped for 200m prone with bipod. All of them are 1MOA or better with target grade ammo and UltraLux was the only one that came with perfect factory trigger. All others needed a small trigger job.
