Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for our National Anthem.
https://youtu.be/R39e5dOc7AUThank you, be seated.
On this date in 1776 the fledgling Continental Congress approved the final wording on the Declaration of Independence before the famous signatures were added. This new experiment, this raw new country that hadn't even formed an army or navy yet, this group of farmers, businessmen, traders, builders and silversmiths who had had enough of taxation without representation, of a government far across the sea determining what they may do with their daily lives, families, homes and what they believed to be core fundamental rights granted from Above. These brave men who signed this document, who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor, meant every word. 56 names are on that document, and of those men, it is said that 14 died in the war, several lost everything they owned, several lost family members, but they stood to what they pledged!! To put it in perspective, let us listen to a great American screen legend speak about a Pledge we all know well.
Ladies and gentlemen, the immortal John Wayne.

So today we celebrate the birth of a new nation, a nation unlike any seen ever before, a nation that would rise to the status of the worlds' last and best superpower. Even though we've stumbled, drifted and had some "less than stellar" leaders, we still have drive, purpose and that document of laws that lay out how things work, the Constitution of the United States of America.
But it all started in Philadelphia in 1776, and the members of a small but stalwart hearted Continental Congress. And that is what we celebrate today.
