Repairing a P-01 Frame
« on: July 09, 2016, 09:34:31 PM »
Received this frame and someone had accidentally driven the sear pin all the way through the wrong side.   Pin was moving out of the frame to the right.

We took a hardened steel gauge pin and used it to create a new swage in the frame to retain the pin.  We used the OEM sear pin to determine the proper depth of the new swage.  Once we match the polycoat, it will be as effective as factory.   We wanted to share this fix with others so a damaged frame can be restored to work as good as new.

I remember sending you my fist CZ with the D/Cer sear cage pin half way driven out. Reminds me of the first set of sights i installed, what a fiasco. Interesting fix, thank you for sharing it with us.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Definitely going to bookmark this one. Automatic Accuracy did something similar to my P01 frame and had to stake it.

Would it be possible to work this fix on a frame that's had the sear pin hole staked?

Match the poly? It looks cool and custom just like it is! O0

We did this to show folks this can be done at home with the right tools, or by a good local smith' w/o having to send a frame to CGW.

David, are you still able to use the CGW slave pin?

You made this insert out of what? It is just a press fit bushing, correct? What is it, like 2mm ID?

I do not think there is a bushing in there, i believe he used the gauge pin as a forming tool and pressed into the side of the frame to shift material towards the center of the hole thereby reducing its diameter. I am not positive though.

"SHIFT MATERIAL" Oh, I think I get it now. It is kind of a "beat to fit" thing! YES, I can do that! O0

Funny thing is it looks like my P01 after having it apart a few times the poly did not hold up in that hole, and I did not drive the pin out the wrong way! Guess I could toutch it up with a sharpie, but it does not bother me, it was the first CZ for me and no virgin any longer. What a great gun with the full Gator treatment. It is back in range rotation now after spending much time with the P07. ;)

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the method sightly reduces the diameter of the hole at the outside of the frame.  Aluminum is soft compared to the steel used to displace the aluminum around the hole inwards/smaller than the improper sear pin removal made it.

I've done something similar with .223 brass that had an enlarged primer pocket.  I put the large crimp removal pin/head in the press ram with the "die" threaded into the press like I was going to swage the crimp out of the primer pockets.  The large primer pocket swaging pin/head mashes the brass around the bottom of the primer pocket inwards/upwards and the small primers fit good and tight again.  I've never tried to measure how long that lasts.  I just load it and shoot it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
