Need to upgrade/fix an older Compact
« on: July 11, 2016, 04:55:52 PM »
I posted a question on this pistol several years ago but never followed through with due to military commitment.  At the time I posed the question and wanted to get the gun worked on, we were sent out of the country for awhile. Well, now retired and finally can get some of my long ago started gun projects taken care.

My dilemma..I purchase a used (but looks like new) CZ 75 Compact when station in Germany. This particular Compact is '93 manufacture with a SN#70XX.
I never had the chance to fire it while there and had the gun shipped home. When I returned stateside, I was able to finally get it outside for a range session. Well, it looks like the previous owner 'worked' on the trigger. It is definitely not right. It seems to work correctly when firing it from the hammer down position (DA). After the slide has cycled and it is in SA position, when the trigger is pulled, the hammer appears to fall forward nearly a 1/4" and then when the trigger is pulled the rest of the way back, the hammer is under tension and 'cocks' reward until it is released to fire. Not sure if I explained this correctly, but it is terrible.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I had posted this question several years ago and someone for CGW had the parts/solution, but I was not able to get it fixed before PCSing. Had sort of forgotten about it until recently. I guess I am hoping there is possibly something that is still available for this older Compact. As heavy as it is, I still like the feel of it in my hands much better then all the tupperware guns that are the current rage.

I would really appreciate any ideas of what is the best fix? Without breaking the bank. ;)

Thank you

Give CGW a call.  He will take care of you.  Sounds like someone did a trigger job and took off to much metal or changed the angles somewhere.

What Viking said^^^^^^^.

I'm no gunsmith for sure,  but:
Might have taken too much off the disconnector or hammer ,   This a an opportunity to buy and install the improved hammer and short reset disconnector.   :) Eliiminates the creep and camming back of the hammer in SA.  The SA pull and breakl will be much more like a tuned 45.  The DA pull will be more of a stedy increase until the clean break.  Both my 75s have these, and the improvement is dramatic.   The DA pull "weight" can be changed to your liking with a hammer spring change.

David at CGW or Stuart at CZ Custom can help you out.   You can also read about DIY here in the forums

Thanks a lot guys!!! I visited the CGW site last night and to be honest, was slightly overwhelmed with the options.  I do a little hobby 'gunsmithing' but definitely nothing major. I was hoping to do this via a trigger/hammer/sear replacement to upgraded parts. Like most people, funds are the deciding factor. Since this Compact is in excellent condition and lower serial numbered, I really don't plan on carrying it as I have plenty of other options in that department. Just want to so the occasional plinking and paper punching with it.

Any particular hammer etc. you would recommend?

Personal question also....your screen name....were you in 1stSOW?  I was at Hurlburt Fld. FL for awhile. Also lost my B-I-L on Spirit '03, shot down over Khafji. RIP fellow Air Commandos and warriors!
