.40 vs 9mm in RAMI
« on: July 28, 2016, 05:44:17 PM »
Hello all, I am new to the group and would like to get some opinions from you. I have been looking at a RAMI for my wife and found a source that has the .40 in stock but not the 9mm. My question is, is there a noticeable difference in recoil of the two? She has a Glock 43 that she is OK with but I have no idea how the recoil of that would compare to the RAMI .40. The G43 is a bit lighter than the RAMI but do not know if it is enough to make a difference. All comments would be appreciated.

.40 vs 9mm in RAMI

Ammo matters quite a bit.  Lots of popular .40 is pretty soft (Fiocchi, PMC, Magtech, Hornady come to mind), while lots of manufacturers including those are making hotter 9mm these days.  The range ammo by me, the 40 and 9 feel pretty similar- Fiocchi's 40 and 9mm fmj are loaded almost identically.  Full power .40 will have noticeably sharper recoil (Double Tap, Underwood, Cor bon, even Federal and Hornady's critical defense).

I carry a .40 rami for dispatching game, shooting Underwood or my handloads in the rami at the range gets quite a bit of attention...

I would strongly recommend that you don't buy her a Rami in .40 without shooting one first. That is unless it's a way for you to get the .40 Rami you've been wanting and couldnt justify. ;-)

That thought never crossed my mind.....it worked for buying the G43.

Thanks for the comments.

I also have to agree with Earl about not buying her a 40 without letting her shoot one first. I am going thru this with my girlfriend right now. When I bought my girlfriend her first gun I got her sig p239 in 40 cal without her shooting one. This was sort of ok at first but I did start to notice that when we went shooting she had begun to put it down to shoot my cz compact 9 or full size 75 even. Things took a big turn when I bought my rami bd in 9mm, I had been looking for a while for one and was very excited to finally get one. I should have known to hide it after the first time she shot it and how much her eyes lit up that I was soon gonna be in trouble. It's gotten even worse since I had it cerakoted and polished the insides because now I am looking for another one because as soon as I do this one will become hers lol. We are selling her sig to a friend and she says that she never did like the recoil on it and from that point on I would recommend letting your wife or girlfriend try out there own guns before buying them

Ted ... Having tested both before we initially purchased a 9mm version for my wife (it eventually became mine as she moved on to an M&P 9c), if your wife is recoil sensitive at all I wouldn't recommend the .40 S&W as the difference was quite noticeable.  Anyone who says it is not has probably not tested them side by side.  YMMV

Many thanks to everyone for the comments. My wife shot my G23, the P-01 and her G43 and although the recoil did not seem to bother her at all, she prefers her G43 because it is small. When I asked her which recoil bothered her the most, she could not tell me, her statement was that she had not noticed the recoil being unpleasant on either of them. If I can come up with the funds at some point, I will probably get the RAMI in .40 since she really likes her G43.
