USPSA Limited / 3 Gun Tac Ops Pistol Setup
« on: August 03, 2016, 02:56:49 PM »
Hello,

I just purchased a CZ Tactical Sports in 40 S&W and am looking to get a new competition rig (current rig will not work with the larger frame).  I will be shooting USPSA Limited and 3 gun Tac-Ops.  What are you guys using for pistol holsters and mag pouches?  I am very tempted to purchase the CR Speed Versa Mag Pouches and a Blade-Tech Pro-Series Speed Holster. Thoughts/Experiences?

CR Speed mag pouches are favorite for the TS.

For holster, you'll likely want something that holds your TS more securely than the BT Pro Speedshooter.  Suggest you look at redhilltactical.com, he's got some great options for kydex and is very reasonably priced.

Ghost "The one" holster. Heres a picture of the rig just not the right gun.

The guy that just post above me runs one and it sure looks sweet with his gun :)

Thanks for the replies.  I started looking at the DAA race master holster. Anyone have experience with the Ghost "The One" and the DAA Race Master? I was a little worried about retention of race holsters, but may be the way to go for limited and 3 gun.

I run the Blade-Tech DOH, and have for years. In 3Gun, retention can be critical.  I know several that use a Level II holster for this reason. In 3Gun, drawing is not so much a speed thing as retention.  I suppose if you are an "upper" tier it might be.  Us low competitors do not want DQ'd for our gun falling out!  :D

This year I switched to the Ghost 360's, bullets out. I really really like that system.

That's the main reason I mentioned redhilltactical since they have a Level 2 retention option for the TS.  I'm unaware of anyone else that's doing that right now.  You could remove the level 2 strap for USPSA.  http://redhilltactical.com/products/copy-of-double-layer-competition-holster-drop-attachment-owb

The Ghost The One is a great holster - very secure but not suited for 3-gun in my mind.  I run it for USPSA on a TS Orange which has a slightly narrower trigger guard than the stock TS.  I got the SP-01 block which still has a little wag on the TS Orange and is rubbing off some polycoat on the trigger guard.  I think a stock TS would be a tight fit, so you might need to relieve some of the polymer material in the SP-01 block to get a better fit.

From what I understand, DAA's have the same tweaking to get a perfect fit (http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/Double-Alpha-Race-Master-Holster-Magnetic-P3606.aspx).   Hopefully someone else will chime in with their experience on that holster system.

Corrected: It's been awhile since I'd looked, but BladeTech now has a Level 2 retention holster for a Tactical Sports too (http://shop.blade-tech.com/level-duty-holste-tactical-sport-carbon-right-p-79598.html#.V6NrD4MrJpg)

Lots of good points and I appreciate the time given to assist in my decision.  I have been reading on the Brian Enos forum, and guys shooting Limited really like the DAA. I will talk to others shooting locally at the next match and try to get a first hand look at some options.  Again, I appreciate everyone's responses.
