550 safari magnum
« on: August 24, 2016, 04:29:24 PM »
I've got an irrational desire to buy a left hand safari magnum in .375 H and H.  I can't figure out why.  The last elk I shot with my very early Remington KS mountain rifle in .300 win mag fell over dead without taking a step.  Will you guys please talk me out of it?

I can think of 5 good reasons to buy it right off the top of my head, but nothing why you shouldn't. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Ideally you should have at least one of every caliber.

Irrational only if you are right handed!!

I have a right hand model, i'm right handed, and although I don't hunt any longer, it is still a hoot to shoot.  It's heavy enough and fits me so well recoil off a bench is no problem.

Why is the left handed model much more expensive than the right handed?  If the LHs were the same price, I'd already have one.

Lower build numbers.  The more you make of something, the lower the per piece costs become.

Yes but sako, remington, tikka, savage, weatherby, etc bring the lefties in at slightly higher msrp than the wrong sided bolt guns.  CZ charges about 50% more.

I think I'm going to (try to) kill my elk this year with the good old .300 win mag again.  I've so far resisted the need for the CZ.  And I put a couple questions out to a fella with a .375 sako but he never answered them so I think I may just stand pat for the time being.

I would never get a left handed bolt action, re-sale value sucks and it's a hard sell. It will be hard for your relatives to sell it after you're worm dirt.😄

My son is left handed.   He's been eying my sakos, my KS remington, my anschutz .22, my old no.1 30-06, and my CZ 452 and 527 .223 with gretan barrel for years.   :)

My daughter is pregnant with her first and he is going to be a boy.  I mentioned to my son that I will have somebody besides him to pass my guns on to and he jokingly said hope he's right handed.

My son is coming over soon and we'll be shooting IDPA today.  I was going to shoot the new P 01 in CCP but then thought forget it, its got to be the shadow, so I have a better chance of kicking my boy's a**!

I've been eying a 550 375 H&H myself.

We should just do it.

You know, team work!
