New to the site and to the vz
« on: September 04, 2016, 12:47:32 PM »
Good afternoon gents, my name's Tom and I'm currently working on a vz build. I just cut the put-off receiver off of the barrel. I thought  did very well with how easy it was until i looked at the Barrel. I must of went too deep with my dremel on one side. Do you think I'll be ok still or should I get a new barrel? It's like a ? inch long maybe a ? or sixteenth deep.

I would think safety-wise that would be fine, especially if you reweld and polish to fill the cut area...  The barrel goes inside a steel receiver, so it's far from unsupported.

A member here, JohnEd, spent a lot of time and energy looking at finding proper bore-size, etc, Czech made barrels and came up empty.  Sure you can find those threads by searching.  He ended up going w/ green mountain barrels Apex sells...  Other benefit is 16" so you can easily replace muzzle devices.

If your ever looking for a Czech barrel call OOW, I believe they still have a few.  Just remember in the US that you have to "permanently attach" a muzzle device (US made? if you want to keep your parts count down for 922R) on barrels under 16" in length.  Land of the free.

If you take the time to learn how to use an image hosting site such as Flickr or photobucket it will save you a ton of time posting to forums

That's the link to the album. If you want to post a photo, you'll need the link to the photo. In this case, since google doesn't make it easy I went to the individual photo page and just right-clicked on the image and selected 'copy image location'. You may have other sharing options if you're logged in. Then you click on the little 'insert image' icon when you go to post here (the first on the left bottom row it looks a camera, i think) and paste between the codes (ctrl-v - your cursor should be there already) and there you have your photo.

I usually use https://postimage.org/ these days to upload photos for posting since they don't require you join anything but there are other sites as well.

Doesn't look that bad to me.  As RSR mentioned the barrel is pressed (and then pinned) deep into a steel receiver, so its well supported. You probably don't want anything sticking up from the barrel before you press it in, but it doesn't look like that happened.

What brand receiver are you utilizing for the build?

LOL "i just got everything for nothing."

Reminds me of the old saying: "We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing."

Well, it was i "here take this" because I re-stored his boat trailer while he was out on medical. I didn't expect anything, but he remembered that I always wanted to build a AK. Told me about the vz and I've been sold ever since.

Well that was nice of him, and you, both. I am interested to know what receiver he had.  My guess would be ORF, but that's just a guess because they seemed to be a common offering at one time.
