« on: September 09, 2016, 06:46:36 AM »
I see a new offering from HBi.  A few handguard choices.

https://hbindustries.net/store/shop/hbi-handguards-for-cz-scorpion/

Fall 2016!  Lets see, the winter solstice is officially the first day of Winter.  That's December 21st.

Might be a good xmas present if it is available in time.

Exactly how big of deal is it if the barrel length shown on your BATF form 1 is for the pistol length barrel (7.75") but you install the HBI Micro (5.2") length barrel?

I believe you can have your Form amended if that is going to be your permanent configuration. It really only comes into play if you ever are transferring it to someone else. In that case, before you can transfer it, you'll have to send a letter to the ATF to get the form updated.

How is the handguard held in place if barrel is freefloated?

More info is on HBi's Facebook.

Production has started - will be available in 6-8 weeks. Pricing is targeted at under $200 for carbine length (most expensive to produce).

The way I always understood it is as long as you can return to the length listed on the Form 1 you are fine.  My SBR is a 12.5 but I have a 8" 300BLK upper too that I run but I can just put the 12.5 upper back on it and still be GTG.

Is the pistol length longer then the stock hand guard? I want a longer hand guard but not quite carbine length.

On the "impatiently" wait list.

Emailed questions about pistol or carbine length to determine which I will be getting.   8)

But I will be getting one or the other.

Let me know what they say. My scorpion is going to stay suppressed so the pistol length will probably be what I get as long it's a little longer than stock.

It's good to see a new competitor to the manticore transformer. I like the look of the streamlined handguard compared to the oem carbine handguard that flares out halfway down. I think m-lok was the way to go and it stays in sync with cz.

The things I don't like are; the gosh darn slant at the end of the handguard robbing us of sight radius. also it's only supported/attached at the trunion which doesn't exactly spell durability compared to the oem 2 point. But hey, the ar rifle market has been getting away with it. I'm sure they designed it this way to add flexibility of barrel lengths under the standard 7.72" and the possibility of suppressor use.

I think if you're going to have a dedicated can on your scorpion, then the shortest barrel with the longest possible handguard is the way to go. It adds protection from burning your hand on a hot can and the limitation of 124/147 gr 9mm on the sub 6" barrel is a non issue since those are the most widely and economically available subsonic rounds on the market.

Personally I'm running a trilug adapter I picked up for my scorpion pistol from hkparts, so I don't have a use for a longer handguard there. I like having the ability to shoot with/without the suppressor on my evo, plus I'm sharing my can with a couple of pistols. If hb industries offered a trilug adapter, I would be all over that.

I know they just recently released their pistol barrel nut wrench adapter, but I would really like to see them come out with a carbine barrel nut socket. Steel isn't exactly their cup of tea as almost everything they make is aluminum, but I think that's what it would take to loosen the carbine nut. I am definitely adding their carbine handguard to my wishlist for my scorpion carbine despite the detractors I noted above.

HBI, keep up the great work. I truly believe you've taken the scorpion evo aftermarket parts and accessories market by storm. Awesome customer service, diversity and quality of products, low cost while striving to release newer and better products.

I am excited about these HBi handguard but would be very interested to hear what MSRP is going to be. I'm a buyer of the pistol length for $175 or under. Not so excited if pricing is beyond that. The beauty of the Scorpion was price point and cool factor. I paid $760 for the pistol and added $275 worth of upgrades already. Add a tax stamp I'm at $475 and I haven't purchased the 922r kit yet. I'm becoming the guy that buys a $1500 car and adds $3000 dollar rims and a $2500 stereo to it. I'm game as long as price point stays reasonable.
