CZ 550 FS caliber choice

Hi Folks,

I'm planning on getting yet another CZ rifle, specifically the model above.  I'm trying to decide whether to get it in the .30-06 or .308.  Does anyone have this gun that can speak to the advantages/disadvantages, recoil between the two?

If you are worried about recoil, a 6.5x55 would be a good choice.

Otherwise, I would probably go 308.

I'm getting that caliber too but I'd also like either the .30-06 or .308....

For 180gr and lighter bullets, your likely better off with a 308. If you plan to hunt larger (moose, bears etc) game and want to use 200gr or heavier bullets the 30-06 is superior.

My 550 FS is in .270 Win, because that's what I like.  I have several .278-.280" diameter bullet moulds, and this package with its short barrel is just the ticket for launching lead under 2,400 fps.  I would also like a FS in 9.3x62...just because.  The 6.5x55 would be stellar in this configuration.

Get what you like!  Personally, the .308 and .30-06 don't "do anything" for me.  That doesn't mean they won't be work for you.  If you are planning on hunting with it, game wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two.  My suggestion would be the .308, as it will perform a little better with the 20" barrel than the .30-06 will.

Not to muddy the water for you, but I love my new 550FS in 9.3X62!
Recoil is amazingly pleasant.
