Pre-B Barrel Bushing Replacement
« on: September 14, 2016, 12:44:48 PM »
Finished polishing my '80s CZ 75 Pre-B. Discovered the barrel bushing was totally worn out. Barrel just rattled in it.
So, I sent the slide and a new bushing to CZ Custom to have the slide milled for the new front sight.
They were unable to accomplish this as the bushing is SCREWED INTO the slide.
So, trying to figure out where to go from here.
First off, has anyone else encountered this?
If so, did you find a solution?
Have a couple friends with complete machine shops so am considering a couple options.
1) Make up a tool to unthread the bushing. Right or left hand threads? If there's enough meat there, bore the slide for a press fit of the new bushing. Figure that if part of the threads remaining will be a non issue as the bushing would be retained by the front sight after we mill the dovetail. Red Loctite in there is another possibility to fill any gaps.
or,
2) Bore right through the old bushing and press the new one into what (if any) remained. Retention as in 1, above.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

That would be my next move. Someone should be able to sleeve yours if nothing else.

I assumed the new bushing is a 10x. Is this the case?

Threaded in?  As in some used a tap and die set and had a custom bushing made for it?

Can you get the appropriate sized EZ out and after some penetration oil is soaked around the bushing/slide with a day or two to work it's way in twist the bushing out with the EZ out?

That's only part of the issue.  The new bushing probably won't be tight in the slide if the slide was threaded.

Didn't some here mention that CGW makes two bushings, one for the CZ 75's and one for another model that has a larger OD?  Maybe my brain's not remembering it straight.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

The larger 10x bushing would require a .550 barrel as well.
