It is a great, quality weapon, and there is nothing to question in that regard, however, what is also important is how this fits you.

I suggest going to a range or gun store that rents weapons and trying a few out.  The full-size is very comfortable to me.  You may prefer a polymer body for weight, a smaller size for your hands, etc. Plenty of choices exist.

Never shot one but held one before. The weight seemed fine and it felt better in my hands than the full size 75b. Haven't fired it before but I figure I could just get used to it.....

Hard to say really. If it feels good in your hand give it a shot. It's as solid and accurate as they come in that price range. It's small enough for reasonable concealed carry, railed for a light, and suitable for home defense. If you don't like it, it will sell quickly for close to purchase price. Don't worry too much, it can take a few to find "the one". P-01 is a pretty good start though. P-07 is a worthy candidate as well and at a lower price point. For me, the 07 is a softer shooter than the 01.

Although the closest thing I have to a P-01 is a PCR ... if I had to buy just one pistol, it would likely be the P-01 -- shortly followed by a Kadet Kit.

I love my P-01.  I consider it one of the most versatile handguns ever designed.  It's perfect for home defense, light enough to carry with the right rig and accurate enough to be a fun range pistol.  If there's one do-it-all 9mm pistol out there, it's definitely the P-01.

Had you considered just ordering one from an online dealer or off gunbroker.com and having it shipped to your FFL?  There's lots of P-01's available.  That's what I had to do to get a PCR.  Availability of certain CZ models is sometimes hit and miss at the gun shops because demand currently exceeds supply but if you really want a P-01 you can probably find one.  The only hassle I foresee is that California limits magazines to 10 round capacity, the same as in my state.  The P-01 comes with two 14 round mags.  See if your FFL is allowed to "plug" them to the legal 10 round capacity or have the seller ship your P-01 without the magazines and buy some 10 rounders yourself.

SKU 01199 comes with 10 rand mags for those states that require them. A P-01 was my first CZ. I feel like the compact frame with rubber grips is the most comfortable of all CZ's. The SP-01 is a close 2nd, but the full size rubber grips have a small bump that irritates my thumb. I'm surprised the P-07 isn't on the roster, Cali is an unfortunate place to live for POTG.

If you are considering a P01, take a good look at the new Urban gray P01 Omega. It is a great gun to shoot, very well balanced and lighter than my 75B due to the alloy frame.
The features that make it a first choice, do it all pistol:
Sweet look to it, with the gray finish.
Includes both a decocker and interchangable safety
      Includes night sites
Light weight alloy frame and steel slide
      Threaded barrel for suppressor.
And of course, the smooth Omega trigger

Yeah, if the P-07 didn't make it on the roster, the 01 Omega surely didn't. Some people love them, and I'm very much in like with my P-07, but the current fondness for the omega action is lost on me. I'll take the 75 action every time.

If you go with the P-01, you may think there is something better out there and may even try other firearms......best advice is keep the P-01 stashed away somewhere, you'll want it back  :)
