New Scorpion for USPSA PCC
« on: October 06, 2016, 08:23:40 AM »
Just got my CZ Scorpion carbine delivered!  I ordered the muzzle brake version but received the faux suppressor, but for $911, I'm cool with it.  I plan on using her for USPSA PCC division and have already ordered a Vortex Venom (Only 1.6 oz, no lens tint), HBI trigger springs, AK style safety and 3 x 30 round mags. I still need to get a sling and mag pouches together. Anyone else using this for PCC division have any suggestions on things to look at?

Blue Force Gear Vickers sling is pretty good.  Pistol tacos holds the mags pretty well.

PCC was my excuse to buy a Scorpion, but I haven't shot it yet because the SBR paperwork isn't back yet.

I don't think you'll need a sling for PCC. My understanding is that you will approach the line muzzle up, chamber flag in place. When the RO give the load and make ready command, he'll take your chamber flag. When you are finished and clear, he give you the chamber flag back and you leave the line muzzle up. The exact sequence will depend on the specific club, but I don't think the sling is necessary.

Otherwise, my favorite sling for a carbine is the VTAC padded.

I made my own magazine holders with Kydex and a Tekloc. They are not the prettiest things around, but they hold the magazines securely and come out nicely, too. I believe there is a  vendor who is selling something similar for about $40 each. These version do look very good, as you might expect.

For most stages, you probably will not need to reload, even if you have a makeup shot or two. The rare long stage requires one reload, max (assuming you started with 30). There are magazine extensions that are coming out that should bring total capacity up to 33 rnds.

There are some YouTube videos of folks using the Scorpion in the PCC division. Pretty cool and should be fun.

How do you like your Vortex Venom? Does it sit low enough to co-witness the iron sights?

Mildew, thanks for the suggestions. I will take a look.

Destructo6, I will be getting the venom Saturday and will let you know how it co-witnesses, but I am thinking of running the venom without irons. I have a match director who loves designing stages with 36+ rounds each stage to force reloads.

I have a carbine for PCC as well. I highly recommend the yetiwurks mag release. I'm shooting my first match with it next weekend, but I've been shooting it all week for practice.

Awesome start! An AK style/paddle mag release is an awesome mod too! CZC complete trigger is also fantastic but the price seems to hurt feelers. HBI springs is an awesome mod for the price though.
-Form 1 filed 11/15, approved 3/16
-HBI AK safety lever
-HBI left side safety delete
-HBI Duckbill magazine release
-HBI Delta extended charging handle
-HBI Theta trigger shoe
-CZC trigger pack
-CZC upgraded disconnector
-CZC trigger job 3#
-CZC Zhukov adapter and stock
-Yetiwurks Switchback

Took the Scorpion out this weekend to get zeroed and rounds through her... I AM IN LOVE! I ran 250 rounds through her with no issues.  Very easy to keep on target for fast follow up shots. Here are some details -

Optic: I mounted the Vortex Venom and it co-witnesses great! The dot is very easy to pickup when raising the rifle to shoot. The shroud around the glass is very thin and does not obstruct my view when shooting with both eyes open, making transitions between multiple targets very easy.

HBI Trigger Springs: Installed the trigger springs and noticed a big improvement with the pull weight.  Very similar to a polished mil-spec AR trigger.  Very usable with a good positive reset similar to a Glock.

HBI AK Safety: Very ergonomic and intuitive.  I found this safety lever easy to engage/disengage and like that I can use my shooting finger to manipulate.

I will be shooting this rifle this weekend during our monthly USPSA match and will report back with results.
