Scorpion 3-lug barrel?
« on: October 16, 2016, 12:02:38 AM »
I've got an early pistol, SBR'd it and it fits nicely in the CZ factory case unless the 3-lug adapter is installed ... so my prefered solution is a 3-lug barrel that has the same overall length as the pistol with the factory flash hider ...

... only problem is I don't know where to find one!

Any help out there in the CZ brain trust?

Thanks in advance  ;)

........get a new case????  Cheaper, easier, and more likely to occur.

I thought a 3 lug barrel would be awesome. Then I looked at a technical drawing of the 3 lug. I'm pretty sure the barrel nut won't fit over it.

Well, that sucks ... I didn't think about the nut being too small

The factory case was the point of the thread; having a larger hard case to fit the EVO isn't a problem, but I doubt CZ will make a larger factory case to accommodate an aftermarket barrel adapter.

You could have the 18mm threads turned down to 1/2x28 and then get a 1/2x28 trilug thread cover at hkparts.net

And that was my point. You will not be able to fit current t options for 3 lug in a $50 factory case. So why not get a new case rather than spend upwards of $200+ for a 3 lug barrel that doesn't exist. There are some real cool CZ Scorpion cases for about $150 that are very "covert", small, and available.

This is the challenge I've run in to trying to figure out how to install a pistol length barrel inside of a carbine handguard and use a 3 lug setup on my Octane. Ideally you'd install the 3-lug adaptor on the barrel before slipping on the handguard, then thread on and tighten the barrel nut. The way it is now I'd have put the barrel but on first then somehow get the 3-lug down inside the handguard and threaded onto the barrel. Getting it on/off would be quite the challenge that far down inside the handguard.

Use the suppressor itself to tighten the 3 lug.  Put the 3 lug adapter into suppressor and then put everything down the handguard and tighten.   That's what I did to tighten a 3 lug adapter on my AR9 barrel and it is rock solid.

What about getting it back off?  That's what worries me more, last thing I need is the rear of the can coming unscrewed and staying on the barrel.

That might not be the best idea. the trilug adapter that screws on the muzzle really needs to be torqued down hard. that may cause damage to the trilug adapter on the suppressor and make it nearly impossible the separate the suppressor adapter form the can itself.  the trilug setup wasn't meant to torque laterally.

"click" when you expect it to go "bang" and

Seems it's the only way to install a 3 lug adapter given his proposed set up. We are not talking 150 foot pounds of torque, 15 - 20 foot pounds should be enough or hand tight plus a little effort combined with a dab of loctite 262. This should not put any undo torque on the suppressor.  At any rate this technique worked for me and I've not had any problems with the muzzle device loosening or the suppressor.  Now, if he wants to remove the 3 lug mount from the barrel, the handguard will probably have to be cut off.
This is why I'm not going to do this. No way to access the barrel/suppressor at the connection point should the suppressor get carbon welded on.  It looks cool, but adds undo complexity and you will be stuck at that length. You can never run it at the shortest length without removing the mounts, handguard, etc.
