Rubber Magazine Bumper
« on: October 23, 2016, 09:39:13 PM »
Ok.  I hope this isn't a lame question.

I got a couple of the OEM Rubber Magazine Bumpers that I want to put on my 14rd magazines that came with my PCR.  Do I take off the metal base plates and replace them with the rubber ones or do they go over the rubber ones?

Thanks!

That's what I thought!  For some reason I can't get it to lock on the mag.

Thanks Viking.

Get something small to put in the hole to move the spring base around a little.  The spring base has a small pin that will fit in the hole on the mag base.  Sometimes it takes a little maneuvering.

Make sure the magazine spring plate is oriented correctly. If you reverse it the pin will be off center just enough to be an issue.

I learned a long time ago to put a pin punch thru the bottom most hole in a magazine to keep some of the spring pressure inside the magazine when changing base plates. Several years ago my son was at my house changing a flat base plate out and it launched and bounced of the ceiling of the kitchen. We yet to find it.

I'd wear some eye protection too.

I tried and concluded they don't fit.  The hole on the rubber bumper are smaller than the metal base plates.

You are right about the holes being smaller but I have 10 of the 14 round mags all with rubber base plates. If you notice the button is tapered and fits into the hole. I have had no problem with mags and base plate separating.

I swapped my flush fitting metal bases for the larger rubber ones. The metal pin that is attached to the spring base just takes a little wiggling to fit into the hole of the rubber one. Since the rubber base pad is much thicker the pin doesn't stick in it very far compared to the thin metal piece. I used a small screw driver to reach through the hole and wiggle it around a little. Just try and slide the new base off the magazine, if it doesn't move than you've probably got it right.
