New to me CZ 75 P-01 and questions.
« on: October 25, 2016, 09:11:14 PM »
Folks I shoot a 75 SP-01 now in some USPSA matches but just picked this up in a trade.  Of course nothing has been done to it so here goes, my intentions is to have it in my vehicle and may also conceal carry, what would you guys start by doing to it as far as any modifications.
Thanks

Have you done any mods to the SP-01?

Have you shot the P-01 yet?

I just got the P-01 today so no I have not run any ammo thru it at all. My SP-01 has been to Davids at CGW for new trigger and some other things, it shoots like a dream, better than my 1911 9mm and also better than my Glock 35, I just didn't know what you guys thought what I should do so any info would be great, including new grips.

Shoot it first and see what you think.  Since you have CGW mods, you should be able to tell what it needs, if anything, after some range time.

Grips and possibly sights are usually the mods many want to do a at first.

I want my carry gun to be good, but I don't think I would want it to be as good as my competition gun.

Personally I think the P-01 is pretty dang good as it is.  I'd shoot it and carry it for a while to see what fits your style and preferred carry method.  Everyone will have different preferences.  For example, I've had a lot of people tell me to get the aluminum grips.  Almost did until I felt them on another CZ and realized they weren't for me.

Congrats on the P-01. I'm looking at the Railed D Compact since the P-01 is rarely in stock. I would think the Railed D Compact is just as good as the P-01?

Also looking at the limited-quantity all-steel SP-01 Compact.

I think the railed D Compact is just as good as the P-01, because it essentially is the P-01, just marked and marketed for different regions/countries.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Personal preference would be to swap the sights for Meprolight tritium or CGW fiber front/blackout rear, swap the trigger for a serrated one, replace the trigger return spring with a CGW unit and floating trigger pin. Some people like the 15# hammer spring.

Agree with this statement........as a minimum replace the main/hammer spring w/15#, less (13#) may require an extended firing-pin swap, kinda depends on your specific gun......swap the recoil spring with a 14#.......swap/upgrade the trigger return spring.......and if the curve of the factory trigger is uncomfortable get an old or new style 85 trigger.  Everything but the trigger is pretty inexpensive but makes a big difference. I've done a lot of work on CZ's over the years and spent a lot in some cases but the biggest "bang"  ::) or improvement in functionality for your money will be these minor upgrades in the order they are listed......hope this helps

Yes this does help, are there any DIY videos for learning how to work on pistols like this, I don't mind changing sights and things like that but I am not very familiar with the internals of a handgun.
