Fitting an Extended Firing Pin on a 75 B
« on: November 06, 2016, 05:55:39 AM »
I have a B SA. It has a firing pin block and CGW extended firing pin. When I push on the firing pin, with the block engaged, it protrudes from the breechface. Do I need to trim it back until flush? I want the firing pin block to work.

Am I thinking about this wrong?

From reading this thread... http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=83542.0 ...and what David has to say...

It is impossible for our firing pins to protrude .040"/1 mm past the breech face if the firing pin block is operating properly.  Besides, you are having light strikes, a classic symptom of an out of time FP block system.

it would seem there is a problem with the timing on the firing pin block. I don't know if the light strike issue always accompanies the problem.

You should contact CGW to find out the best way to deal with the issue.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

The question is how much?  We have checked hundreds+ of CZ's for firing pin timing.  They vary from perfectly flush to protruding around .005" from the breech face with the plunger in the "safe" position.

It takes about .020" of firing pin extension to set off most primers.

I just was able to measure this. Sorry about the delay. With the FP Block engaged, max protrusion is 0.019" from the breech face.  Hammer down on the firing pin is exactly 0. It gets this by the block rotating in the slide.

So my question is should I cut the tip back 0.020" or is there something obvious I'm not seeing? Could a new block and pin be fit to have less rotation?

You need to call us for tech support to ensure your measurements are accurate, as well as making certain you are doing the measurement procedure properly.

OK, will do. Ill call when i get freed up in a couple weeks.

Fwiw, i was using the depth part of the caliper on the back of the slide. I found the zero point to be where the pin was even with the breech face. Then i pushed as far as it would go giving me max protrusion. It is a challenge, but i got to where dimensions were quit repeatable.....maybe 0.003" variation.
