I'm doing a few upgrades to the P-09
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:31:35 PM »
Yesterday i installed a Dawson FO sight on the front. It solved one problem I had that I went and spent $4K to fix and failed. I'll explain.

I have worn contact lenses or glasses my entire life it seems. My vision was bad without them but okay corrected. Bad as in 8.5+ correction bad. When I would aim a gun into a bright foreground all I could see was the outline of the sights. My 2 other CZ and Glock 19 have a night sight on the front, when I would aim any of those into a darker foreground the site was bright and easy to see. I discovered about 10 years ago i have congenital cataracs, both eyes. I had been complaining about glare for all that time. Last spring I had the cataracs removed and a toric lense implant put in at the same time taking my vision from a 8.5+ to a .25, cost me about $4K. I had the same problem when looking/aiming into normal light, could only see the outline of the sights. So the surgery did not correct that problem.

After putting on the FO sight, it does not matter if I am pointing into bright or subdued light, the red dot of the FO lights up bright as can be.

Also ordered some Talon stick on grips, I'll see how those work out, i like a bit more grip than what is offered with a polymer pistol.

Sir; I am glad that the correction was successful and your vision has improved and allowed you to continue to shoot. I also have Dawson Precision sights on many of my CZ's and find them very helpful.  Enjoy your "new eyes" and continued shooting.

I had similar surgery for a different problem and ended up exactly where I was corrected. Glad yours turned out better!

I love fiber optic fronts. Only thing better IMO is a red dot... and on my RDS pistols I still have green fiber fronts :)

BTW, if you don't mind, post a pic or two of the talon grips when you get them.

Yes, the Fiber Optics are a big help to those of us with weak or aging eyes. I also have cataracs but not bad enough yet for insurance to pay for.
I am glad you are getting your sight problems straightened out.

Talon grips are great along with BooDadsGrips (Ebay Seller). The BooDads do not cover the backstrap which is good for changing backstraps and a little less expensive but seem to be exact same material.

Here is my P-09 with Talon Grips:

I love my P-07 with the talon grip. Completely changed the way I felt about the gun.

I own a 09 exactly like yours, OldFrank. At the time, the FDE was the only 09  my dealer could get with night sights.

But now, I really like the FDE.

For some reason, although fiber optic sights show up intensely, I prefer white dots.

And Talon Grips on the 09 are great.
