CZ P 09 Work Gun
« on: December 19, 2016, 02:35:32 AM »
So,
I need no convincing about how great CZ handguns are. But I'm a 9mm or .45 type. I had to purchase  a .40 for work and I stayed with CZ and got a P 09 .40 (dirt cheap btw) and wow...

We had to do a yearly shoot that was very challenging. (Even some of the more high speed Feds there got rattled. But no one complained)  ;D

Needless to say,  the P 09 made me look really good. It was the first time I used it, I've hardly shot .40 and it was just a pleasure to shoot. To be blunt, I couldn't believe I was shooting a .40

I've got a little bit of a background. But I'm just amazed that in this highly difficult course that was designed for people to get really stressed out, I was able to do this well with a new firearm and caliber.

I'm saying this because the P 09 (or P 07 which I have in 9mm) is a really fine firearm. I'm truly convinced that me scoring higher had a lot to do with the gun itself. I see why people love it so much.

I'm not used to 40 at all and it was like shelling peanuts. Also, it was dead accurate and totally reliable after a 500 rd course right out of the box.

Cossie,
Very interesting report.  I'm pretty familiar with the P-09 in 9mm but have never even tried it in .40.  I had a SIG P-226 in .40 and converted it to 9mm.  The only .40 I have left is a Kahr PM-40 and I like it fine except it isn't comfortable to shoot at all.  It's a carry gun.

I doubt that I would have taken to the .40 cal version quite as quickly as you, but I have LEO friends who have to shoot .40 that I may see if I can get to try one.  I know they are available since the demand seems to have dropped some for .40 over the last couple of years.

Very glad it is working out for you.  I know I was surprised at how much I like the P-09 in 9mm when I first got it.  I've been very happy with it and the P-07 ever since.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for asking,
It started with basic static target shooting to warm up. We then did some different shooting positions. THEN!...night fell and they set up a combination of shooting from cover, on the move, pop ups, shooting from a vehicle, hostages and clearing small rooms. Plus my ass still hurts from all the airsoft pellets they were shooting at us. It was on a very tight time limit also. It was designed to break people down. Which I think was great. Also, they had smoke machines and recordings of screaming. It wasn't supposed to make you look pretty. Which I think is very useful. Again, I really think the P09 was a big factor in my score. But I'm no expert.

You're welcome Joe,

I don't know if I agree. I'm not as experienced with .40 as you are. So, if you've owned different types of .40s like you did I think you'd appreciate the p09 in that caliber. Especially if you liked the Sig.

Maybe like you, I'm not a big 40 guy but it's not a bad round. I'm not sure I would take to a smaller Khar in that round either.

Its funny, I checked out the p09 for a while and I was thinking "meh!" but I only bought it because it was the same design as my p07 but with the longer barrel. I thought that would help me with the 40. (it did) But now, I love it. It turned muy head around.

Funny enough Joe, I actually CC it sometimes. I just limp on those days!

Btw....for those who posted, if anyone is looking for a holster for the p07/p09 the KT Mech is great. I bought the duty version. Very well done and very good customer service

My carry gun isn't a CZ, but it is a 40. Dead reliable, and a great shooter, but if I'm having an off day at the range I blame the caliber so quickly. On a good day, I feel like a king.

I'd love to have a P09 in .40 to go with my other in 9mm, but having fun at the range becomes a burden, I can almost buy another gun with what I spend on ammo after a few trips to the range.

I was all ready to blame the ammo too but I couldnt! If you like 40 you should try it in a p09. I think you'll appreciate it.
