CHEAP MAGAZINES
« on: December 30, 2016, 06:45:06 PM »
Just incase anyone is interested in saving some money, the Witness magazine that Mec-Gar sells is exactly the same unit as the CZ 97B except for the shape of the floor plate which is not quite as thick. They function and feed, lock the slide back just like the original. The biggest difference is the price $25.70 on EBay with free shipping. (Price and seller changed to reflect available units for sale)

Greg Cote has the mecgars and also has the 97 mag base plates so they are identical to OEM.

His website is down for maintenance but you should check his prices when it comes back online.  Great prices and super fast shipping.

Cheers,
Toby

Just tried it and it worked with the Tanfo mag in the 97b but the 97B mag would not lock up in the Tanfo. I can not detect the reason why. Side by side the appear to be identical. Even the holes in the sides for the mag release appear to be positioned the same.

Greg has these for $24.95 but you are going to pay shipping. The floor plate on the Witness mags are not exact but if you are looking to save a few bucks over the OEM they work just fine as they are. Greg does have great prices and that is where I buy 99% of mine. The Witness mags offer a good bit of savings over the $38.00 for the OEM magazine. Every little bit helps.

I've used my witness mecgars for years with my 97bd without issue.  My only concern is the witness mag base is not as burly as the cz base.  I use them in local club uspsa like events so lots of mags drops to the ground.  Like I said though I haven't had any issues yet.

Cheers,
Toby

It probably won't lock-up due to the thickness of the base plate, i.e. the difference in thickness above where the base plate slides onto the magazine body.

This^^.

Here is a picture for reference from a previous thread on the subject. <------ CZ97 Mag / Witness mag ------>
Edit: I just noticed SPO1SHADOW already posted a pic showing the mag base thickness in the orignal post.
