Who do you trust for reloads?

I got reloads in from two companies today. The difference in the quality is staggering. One company's reloads look like BNIB factory fresh ammo, the other's....well....doesn't.

So, who do you trust for reloads?

I usually get reloads from Freedom Munitions. Sometimes their primers are a little hard, but the ammo looks like new stuff and works pretty good.

Other than the ones that come out of my press.. no one. Looks are only that. How do they shoot? Before I started reloading and back when ammo was extremely difficult to find I bought reloads form the internet. I experienced 30% failure to fire. The primers were not seated properly. Last time I bought reman ammo.

I trust my own reloads. The only other reloads i have tried were from Freedom Munitions. There was enough weird stuff in that batch for me to make the decision to not buy reloads. Backward primers, inconsistent seating depths. I have also had the experiences of blowing up one of my firearms from bad range reloads.

When i am not reloading i buy factory ammo.

I have bought commercially remanufactured ammo from companies such as Freedom Munitions, but I don't classify that in the same category as Billy Bob's reloads.

Ok, remanufactured ammo is commercially done to SAAMI standards.  Freedom Munitions makes remanufactured ammo, and that is the one that looks BNIB Factory Fresh. Ive inspected 200 of the 500 and theyre good externally and the random 20 I ckecked were seated correctly and weighed in consistently.

Any other Remanufacturers either recommended or to stay away from?

? I believe we have a member who tried the Freedom Munitions and couldn't get one type of their 147gr to allow his CZ slide to go into battery. The whole box, not 1 or 2 cartridges. So 'manufactured to SAAMI specs' is not always enough. Hope you didn't buy 147's !!

? Several other forum members are very happy with Atlanta Arms. All their staff are very active in local shooting competitions, and they are shooting the same stuff they sell.


Me, I reload my own. Haven't bought ammo in 15 years. If you are shooting regularly, then you need to sit down and run some numbers. Reloading your own will pay for all the equipment in 4 to 9 months. If you plan on shooting each month between now and Jan 2018, then there's a high probability that you're spending too much to shoot junk ammo. It's that simple.

I use FM 147 RN remans in all my CZs without any problems except for occasional light primer strikes, but  I'm using light hammer springs in the guns having occasional issues. A couple of my guns don't like their 147 JHPs.

Don't trust anyone else. And think long and hard before you decide to trust yourself too.

Quite a few users on reddit's gun sub have had issues with freedom munitions and kabooms. They always seem to be issuing a recalls on ammo too. I would rather pay 3 cents extra per round and keep all my fingers.

A 50 round box of federal 9mm at walmart for like a buck fifty more than than "new" freedom munitions and you don't have to pay shipping. Federal is a large company and if they double charge a round and you blow your face off  you will at least get a large sum of money as a settlement from their legal department.

Like many have said trust no one's reloads. If you want to shoot reloaded ammo learn to do your own properly. I did many years ago and rarely fire a factory round. Otherwise stick with factory new ammo. There are some good deals out there if you search. Try Ammunition Store.com or Aim Surplus just to name a couple.

Atlanta Arms reman and new.  Can't tell the difference.  I could buy a small house for what I've spent on Atlanta Arms ammo over the last 5 years, but I haven't ever really wanted to get in to reloading for fear I will add yet another hobby that I don't have time for, as I'm still working full time and have two grandkids now. 

When you can't tell ANY difference shot to shot due to ammo at 100 and 200 yards with a pistol, there is no incentive to change or even try something different.  True for me in .45 and 9mm.

I've purchased 45ACP not 9. I see no real advantage on 9 when I can routinely get FMJ for $10/50.  Funny but Atlanta Arms isn't that far from me. They supply the Army Marksmanship Unit. As for reloading. Full time job, two in High School, etc. makes that a retirement dream for me.

I can reload 100 9mm for less than you can buy 50 round box for.  Even better savings on 45 and 233. Decent equipment you can reload 500 rounds in an hour.

You obviously didn't read the article I recommended. Cost is only one of the advantages. Besides, there's no way you can possibly compare mediocre 115gr RN ammo to the tuned for-my-gun 124gr Precision Delta HP over VihaVuori powder with a match grade Federal primer. And the $4 I save on every box stays in my pocket.

Two in high school may be the best reason to start. With teens, you're probably looking for an excuse to sit down and talk. You might want to excite them about something besides the opposite gender. You might be wanting to show them there's a practical side to all the math they're learning. You might be looking to gift them a hobby they'll have the rest of their lives.

And you better be thinking now about an excuse for them to come home once they leave the nest !! Worst news I ever received... "Oh and guess what? My wife bought me my own reloading setup for Christmas !"
