background check delay
« on: January 11, 2017, 06:14:35 PM »
I ordered one of the unicorn SP-01 Compacts last week. I went to pick it up at the LGS this afternoon. I filled out the Form 4473 and browsed the display cases while the background check was being run. After a few minutes the store owner told me that I was put in a 5-day delay queue due to "high volume."

That's absurd. Delphidoc is NOT happy  >:(  (Tony Dorsett and I refer to ourselves in the third person). It's the third week after Christmas, not before. We didn't just elect a liberal president.

Has anybody else had this happen to them or anyone they know recently?

When the knock on the door said “Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms,” naturally I thought it was a delivery…

LGS called this evening and said the check went through so I can pick it up tomorrow. I was texting some buddies about this at work and all kinds of fun conspiracy theories sprang up. Majority opinion is that NSA will be there when I show up tomorrow. Hmmm, I did see a helicopter today that didn't make any noise and didn't cast a shadow....

When i was at the store the owner said the delay could be as long as five business days, which would've put me back as long as Thursday next week. Not sure where 3 vs 5 comes in, and not sure if he meant 5 of his business days or the feds. My guess is it's possible to buy a gun on a Sunday. I'm starting to think he didn't know the correct info on this. I sure didn't.

I had to wait 15 minute once, almost lost my mind...sorry, couldn't help it. Here a CCW permit means you already passed a background check so they don't run them again when you purchase through an FFL. Glad to hear it got approved!

This is the 9th handgun I've bought in the last three years. Never had to wait more than a few minutes before. I bet the delays were insane right after Obama's two election wins.

Take a buddy so someone can tell you when the little red dot shows up on your forehead. ;D

My wife said sorry, I don't how you don't like to wait. LOL

I wish Oklahoma had that kind of arrangement where CCW = no background check.

Off topic, but I read last night that there's a bill being considered in Washington that mandates universal reciprocity for conceal carry permits.

Yes that is true and it would apply to resident and non resident ccw holders

It stems from obama and killary, when it was getting close too election the background checks suddenly became backed up for an extended periods of time because they were trying too block gunshow buys. gunshow sellers couldnt get a single yes from ncis. They are back logged now due to the back up from that.

like armored man mentioned here in az if you have your ccw you dont need to be called in. I used too get a 3 day wait all the time because of a previous incident. got my ccw and have had 0 issues since.

Same here...

A one-time 15 min delay, but never a refusal.

No state check and minimum Fed paperwork with a GA carry permit.

In God we trust; On 'Starting Load' we rely.

Maybe the LGS needed some time to try the gun out.

In kalifornia we need to wait 10 days after purchase. My buddy was placed on a 30 day hold because his name was very similar to another guys name.  That other guy was a felon. After 5 days (after the initial 10 days) it was all worked out and he was able to pick up his firearm.  It's a bunch of BS

In Illinois, the current average approval wait is 5 days.  The Illinois State Police do the approvals here.
