P09 Feed Geometry
« on: January 25, 2017, 11:59:47 PM »
Well, I'm the proud new owner of a supressor-ready P09 9mm that I put on order on the historic day of 1/20.  Snowy and nasty here, so I haven't had a chance to run any rounds thru it yet, but I did make an interesting observation that I haven't heard anyone talk about.  With a loaded mag inserted and the slide locked back, this has to have the best feed geometry of any semi-auto I've ever seen.  On most guns, the round in the mag is pointed right at the middle of the feed ramp.  On this gun, the round is actually lined up right with the chamber.....with the top 2/3rds of the round aimed right at the chamber.  Has anyone else noticed this?

The gun is so tight that there is zero movement anywhere.....I can't get any wiggle out of the barrel or out of the slide to frame fit.....and just for giggles, I tried hand cycling some rounds to see what it acts like.  I can't slow the slide down to the point where it won't feed.  Even riding the slide and moving it at a snail's pace the entire way, it still feeds every single time and goes completely into battery.  I've never seen a semi-auto that would do that.

Hopefully the weather will clear and I can run some rounds thru it in the next few days.

I never noticed the feed geometry. I will have to take a look at mine.

Gratz on the new CZ.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Congrats on the new gun.  The P07/P09s are some of the best deals in semi-autos out there today.  As much as I love my all steel guns, the P07 just keeps finding its way into my holster regularly.  I'll have to take a look at the feed geometry on mine.  I've hand cycled my P07 in .40 a bunch but have not done so with the 9s.

VRSW, I was all excited about this, so I went and checked.  ;)

I own 4 9mm pistols: a CZ-75 Shadow Line, a CZ P-09, a GLock 17, and an H&K VP9.  With both CZ pistols, the bullet sits a little higher in the pistol, than with the Glock or HK, but very little.   And with all 4 pistols the bullet is pointed into the chamber.  With all four pistols, the ogive of the bullet hits the lip where the ramp meets the chamber.  None of them hit the nose into the ramp itself.

Looking again thru a few of my guns, I would say the two guns that look the "worst" in this area are my Hi Power clones and the EAA Witness polymer frame 9mm I just purchased a few weeks ago.  The bullet is well below the chamber and the bullet hits about right in the middle of the feed ramp.  My Glock 20 looks pretty good with the round lined up about half way with the chamber.  My CZ 75 looks to be maybe just a bit better lined up than the G20.....but it still looks to me that this P09 tops them all.

I was also very impressed with the factory polish of the feed ramp of this gun.....by far the best of any gun I have ever owned.

This is what's typically referred to as straight line feeding.  Beretta's are well known for this.
