Gun smithing vise
« on: January 27, 2017, 03:32:31 PM »
Hi, I have several pistols & revolvers and would like to do a little work of my own, sights, grips, etc, could anyone suggest a good good vise? I have some shop vices, could I wrap the pistols and use them? I would really rather use something that is designed for that purpose Thanks DocD

I have a few shop, machinist and precision vices of different size. The most used is a standard 6" bench mounted shop vice with either alum/rubber jaw inserts, or i use leather padding cut from the old leather belts. You don't want the small, movable vice while working with stubborn pins.

I bought a small vice from Amazon, together with the vice jaw inserts.

Like this: Vice

and

Jaws

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges - Tacitus

Inter arma enim silent leges - Cicero

I wasn't born in America, but I got here as fast as I could.

The vise with the magnetic jaws works great.  If you're working on CZ's I strongly suggest the CZC bench block SKU 30310.  I own one and it works great for removing stubborn staked pins like hammer pins.  It's well worth the money.  Good Luck !!!

I don't do much gunsmithing, but when I do I use my bench mounted vise. For the jaws I took an old rubber water hose, slit open one end and slide it on the jaws.

You're very welcome. I got mine there a few weeks ago. Stuart was the one who showed it to me, but any of the good folks there can help you. Just ask to see one. I love going there. Happy I live close by.
