Hey guys, can someone explain to me how the decocker works? does it simply lower the hammer or is there something that blocks the firing pin?

thanks

On P series pistols It lowers the hammer to the half cock notch. It dose not block the FP. In other words the hammer is not lowered all the way down so the FP is not a concern. Even the safety models have a half cock notch on their hammers but it it not generally used.

ok.. is there anyway that it could fail and just drop the hammer the full way possibly causing a discharge?

There is still the firing pin block keeping the FP from moving forward.

Better safe than sorry. Keep in mind that anything mechanical is not 100% guaranteed.
No, I've never heard of a modern CZ decocker having an accidental discharge when using the decocker. But, always point in safe direction when decocking[emoji6]

The fireing pin block has a lifter arm that is not fully enguaged until the trigger is pulled rearward all the way.

Even if the hammer was to fall fully and not catch the halfcock notch the FP is blocked unless the trigger is pulled, which it is NOT in decock mode.

This is a very safe method and why it is used for training third world idiots on military pistols! O0
