CZ 75 Slide not locking open.
« on: February 26, 2017, 04:33:35 PM »
I've got a transitional Israeli surplus CZ75 - looks like a "B", but no FPS. It's started occasionally not locking back on an empty mag. I'm suspicious of the mag springs, although they're only a year or so old.

Anything else I should look at?

1. Check you're not riding the slide catch.

2. Check the slide catch spring isn't broken.

3. Make sure the mags are clean and stretch the springs and see if that fixes it.

Could it be the follower? I had to buy new followers for some pre-B mags in order to lock open the slide on my 75B.

With a transitional, it might still be okay with the older pre-B magazine and follower. However, it is worth consideration if that's what you have. The older style followers lacked a pronounced notch that is in the newer followers and B models tend not to lock back. It's the one on the far right.

Yup. I would definitely try a new follower. Cheap enough.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

1. I run a "thumbs forward" grip, so I'm clear of the slide catch. This keeps me from shooting Sigs though...
2. Spring is good.
3. I think I last cleaned the mags... um... what year is it? I'll definitely try that. I'll give the springs a stretch too, but I think I'll go ahead and respring everthing just for GP.

All my mags are OEM or Mecgar and <than 10 years old, so they should all have current followers. I'll give them a good visual inspection when I clean/respring them, though - make sure all the working surfaces are sharp, etc.

Speaking of re-springing, the only mag springs Wolff has are for the OEM 16 rounders. Everyone I've asked says to use them even for the 18-19 rounders but, even with the +15% springs, I'm a little suspicious. Any better source for springs for the big mags?

The blue Mec-gar followers in the pic above,  use a spring with a different bend on the coil that hooks up with the Mec-Gar follower.  Make sure you get the Mec-Gar springs for those mags. CZC also sells the Meg-Gar stock springs. There may be a way to re-bend that top spring wire ,  but I haven't tried it.

Just a follow up; my extractor broke, so I ordered a new slide stop as well - the only thing in stock was an SP01 slide stop FWIW - and that seems to have fixed it.

Haven't run all my mags through it yet, but at least 6 or 8, and they've all locked open.

My slide would not lock back after the last round on occasion on my SP01. It happened when the gun was hot from firing many rounds. Again, it was occasional, however, enough to irritate me. I replaced the slide stop spring with a new one and so far (knock on wood) I no longer have that issue. I would look into that as well as cleaning your magazines.

BTW, there are 2 versions of slide stops for the 75B model. There is the old style (my assumption is for the CZ75) and the newer style (the C75B). But please don't quote me. I just saw 2 versions when I was looking for the slide stop part. Just a heads up to make sure if you do order, order the right part.

What's called the newer model now is one that been reshaped to pass 147 gr and larger bullets without rubbing against the slide stop and causing a failure to feed.

Please elaborate.  I have newer CZ75 B's that I've had exactly that problem with.  I had to modify the slide stops which cured the problem.

NEW Slide stop  at CZC
I understand the modification.  What I'm trying to discern is why you said "newer model".  Are you saying that CZ has added this modification to their new production?
