Howell Munitions & Technology (X-Treme)
« on: March 02, 2017, 07:11:21 PM »
You may, or may not, have heard rumors about X-Treme Bullets having some issues of late with finances.  Here is an update from the local newspaper in Lewiston, ID, where they're located:

Hope this helps.

Howell Munitions & Technology is the parent company of Freedom Munitions. I wonder if this will affect Freedom Munitions in any way. It will be interesting to keep tabs on this to see if anything continues to transpire.

Interesting.  I wonder if there's too much supply or just not enough demand....

Thanks for sharing rFred ;)

Not sure which who is leaving where both Freedom and Xtreme are owned by them but I did noticed that Xtreme had stopped those daily 5% of deals and recently raised their prices on bullets about 10%. Raising their prices in a soft market probably didn't make it any better though. I know I started looking for other places to buy bullets after they did that.

I noticed the price increase as well. If I recall, this was the second increase in a short period. Their bullets shoot well in my pistols, but this started me looking elsewhere. I haven't noticed others raising their prices, but I could be wrong. Hope they get it together...

"Others" aren't located in CA, where taxes are high and state EPA inspections are probably a daily occurrence. It's clear CA doesn't want this type industry in their state and probably do their best to discourage it. I mean, come on, everyone knows "bullets kill".

Thought they were in ID. Regardless, you are spot on about CA. Break rules that benefit some politicians and that is fine. Exercise your constitutional rights as a citizen and you are an evil doer. Not much better here in the People's Republic of NJ.

Xtreme Bullets is in CA.

No, they're in Lewiston, Idaho.  The original plant was the old Western Bullet Co., in Carson City, Nevada.  They've been making bullets in both places.

 Lewiston Location:
 815 D. Street
 Lewiston, Idaho 83501
 208-746-3668

Their brass credit location is here:

Capital Cartridge
Attn: Brass Credit Program
9702 Wallisville Rd, Suite B
Houston, TX 77013

At the SHOT Show in January, the mood in their booth was rather somber, in direct opposition to their mood last year.  They were still giving out samples of their bullets, but only a couple at a time, whereas last year they let attendees take them by the handful.

Just before the SHOT Show, they replaced their CEO, too.

Hope this helps.

Ditto for me... I recently went shopping on their site for more bullets and didn't like their "new" prices. I'm going with coated(Hi-Tek) lead for now.

On a related note, I saw Freedom increased prices during the X-Mas season for some of their products then dropped them down afterwards. Specifically, I bought the GI rifle from their site last summer and saw the price jump over $200 during X-Mas. I understand they were possibly adjusting to the "season" demands. Just an observation.  Amazon.com does this all the time.

They sell millions of bullets so it is hard to believe they cannot make a go of it.

I too noticed recent price increase and lack of almost daily deals.

I have been shooting more coated bullets from Bayou and Acme but the TJ Conevera FMJ and JHP bullets with free shipping are worth the little extra money over Xtreme and my informal range testing has shown the JHP to be the top bullet in accuracy.

My preference for plated bullets has been Berry's for many years, and my preference for jacketed bullets is Rocky Mountain Reloading (RMR), which have proven to be in the same price range as plated for their in-house FMJ 9x19 bullets.

Hope this helps.

I like their plated RN as well.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

I have loaded many thousand of X Treme bullets both plated and their jacketed .223 55gr FMJBT. I hope they stay in business.
