CZ Shadow 2 vs 85C - initial comparison
« on: March 30, 2017, 07:50:00 PM »

Got my Shadow 2 in. Some initial comparisons + thoughts. I have yet to shoot the Shadow 2 yet.

  • Nice fat trigger, feels good to pull. DA reach is a wee bit far even with their thin aluminum grips. Still manageable though.
  • SA trigger pull weight is very light. Creep is awful, needs a new hammer badly. Also a lot of pre-travel, it needs a disco fitted
  • DA trigger pull was pretty bad, I have a 8.5# spring in right now to try. Will also use an 11# spring if it won't ignite.
  • The undercuts are fantastic and the improvement over the old 75 frame is such a radical change. Also, the checkering on the front and back strap is extremely grippy. No tape needed. Again, I will see if my opinion changes after shooting.
  • The profile of the new slide makes it a bit harder to rack. Much easier after I got new springs in though. Also a bit harder to use the thinner slide lock release. I am sure it will get easier as the springs wear.
  • Barrel bushing fit was awful like David commented. Installed the 10X bushing and much much much better fit.

I think like other people have said, polishing doesn't seem to really be needed. Not sure if I will do it as it feels very smooth already.

Sweet. I agree about the trigger so I ordered a bunch of goodies from CGW about an hour ago. Production legal hammer kit, type 1 disco, RPTS, and the floating trigger pin - plus some other odds an ends. At first I thought the trigger would do, but then I changed my mind. Congrats!

Based on the 2 posts I feel a bit better about having CZC swap the hammer and do the SRT before it shipped.

Yes, I do feel a little deceived by some posts of people saying zero creep in their SA, but it's possible they just got better hammer hooks than me. Otherwise, I would have added in a CGW hammer + disco. That said, I have been waiting for the DLC discos from CGW. I think the S2 is very useable in its current form. It's just having a tuned CZ that makes the S2 feel bad.

Did you out the new hammer in yet? Curious to hear how it all pans out when you're done with upgrades. Sure looks good!

I've been thinking about swapping in my hammer from the 85C, but I am a little hesitant because I'd have to move the sear over as well, and I don't know how I feel about opening up a sear cage right now haha. I'll probably be calling CGW today to ask about getting an NP3 coated hammer and disco and will order as well.

I had the opportunity to handle my gun today, (YES HANDLE, i can't take it home yet) i was concerned about to sharp of checkering, I have a medium sized hand, this gun feels like it was made specifically for me and I didn't find the checkering to be to sharp.

Same here - I don't think the checkering is too sharp.

Just shot my S2 today. It was not reliable with 8.5# HS, but I am not using Federal Primers. I had one light strike with 11.5#, but I think it should be good to go. I believe it was due to me pulling the trigger too slowly in DA. I think it needs a 10# recoil spring since I am still dipping down.

I really don't see what makes this a $1300 gun with all the things it needs to have done with it to make it better.

My $550 SP-01 had better features it seems.

I don't think it's worth $1300, but some places are selling it for $1100 which isn't too bad. The price will start dropping soon.

Worth is different for everyone.  Also, as with electronics, there's a premium for early adopters.  Now having said that, I only recall one retailer (online anyway) that was drastically lower than anyone else.  And if CZ does it's usual, availability after this initial glut of inventory has dried up could keep the price at a premium, especially if people keep buying them.

Older thread that I wanted to make a comment on.  My new S2 has no trigger creep that I can feel, and the take up/pre-travel is 1/2 the distance that my Shadow Orange has. I don't know if it's luck of the draw or not.  This S2 was probably built in Sept. 2017.
