Where to shoot around West Yellowstone / Island Park
« on: April 04, 2017, 10:09:21 AM »
Going to Island Park around the second week of August with the in-laws. You'd think that would be a great man-venture but this group generally likes walking along boardwalks and shopping in the little shops. No go for good hikes, good fishing, shooting, etc.
I tried looking for clubs and ranges in the are but haven't had luck. Closest club was an hour away or so. Anyone familiar with that area? Are there any ranges to go shoot at? Can I just go shoot on public lands like we can here in Utah?
Beyond going into Yellowstone, any other recommendations of things I can do while the in-laws "shop" and stroll around?

SP- I highly encourage visiting Yellowstone & nearby Grand Tetons- assuming you haven't spent quality time there before.  I've been there several times & still am awed by the grandeur of the region.

Wife & I spent several days at GT last year- 30 years from the 1st time we visited.  Was amazed at the change.  Drop me a PM if you are interested in specific things we found of interest.

Can't advise of shooting ranges- perhaps out on Nat'l forest lands.

Like a midget at a urinal, I'll have to keep on my toes

I don't know any place to shoot, but the trout fishing in and around the park can be fantastic. Catching the native Cut-throats on a light weight fly rod is a blast.

Well well! I'll resurrect my fly rod for sure!

Send PM Tanners Owner, definitely interested!

If anyone else has recommendations beyond ranges I'm happy to hear them!

This is the only place I know of around West Yellowstone: http://www.biggunfun.com/ but that's probably not what you had in mind.

There is the Unified Sportsman Range outside of Rexburg. It is a little ways from Island Park but there is that option that I know of. It is $5 to shoot at. I live in Idaho Falls and have shot at it a few times. I shoot mostly at the SEIPS Range in Idaho Falls but you have to be a member. There is also an indoor range in IfahpnFalls called Guns n Gear. Other than that, I am not sure of any designated ranges. Hope that helps.
