SO as the title states: I'm wondering if it's OK to run a
round wire recoil spring (14lb CGW "Piano wire" variety...) in my SP-01. The stock spring is of the flat-wound variety and while I can find a million and one threads discussing the WEIGHT, I don't see anything answering my question. My concern is coil-bind and damage due to such an occurrence (I've seen first hand what this can do on both DH Mtn bikes and Off-road Race-Trucks in my life and I don't want to be HOLDING the device in question when it does LOL... I have a hell of a scar from when my DH bike's rear suspension blew up on me at close to 35mph on steep part of a course in a thicket of Cedar Trees... OUCH, that still hurts to think about). So, yeah, I "fear" coil bind a wee bit LOL.
I also notice that when I put the 14lb CGW spring makes racking the gun feel like there isn't even a spring in there compared to the factory weight...
I know people run much lower weight springs (and I've run lighter springs in nearly all of my Glocks minus the 10mm's in the past as well as other makes) but MAN it's a bit nerve-racking with it being that light aye, and that's only the 14lb spring, not an 11lb or even an 8lb like I've heard people running with gammer loads. According to common wisdom though (not being snarky, I really do appreciate all the learning this site has helped me with) the 14lb spring
should be about "perfect" for even Std. Press. 124gr defensive loads (or am I wrong about that too?) let alone 115gr plinking ammo.
Cheers
