P07 loaded chamber indicator
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:13:00 PM »
I picked up a brand new, manufactured in 2017, P07. Great gun, loving it so far. I noticed that my pistol has a small silver stud at the rear of the extractor. When there is a bullet in the chamber this stud protrudes slightly indicating a loaded chamber. I was looking at pictures online of other P07 and P09's and none of the pictures I see have this indicator.

I don't mind it, but just curious if anyone knows if this is a new addition for 2017 or did I maybe pick up a California compliant pistol? For the record, I do not live in California.

The gun also has the cutout at the rear of the chamber so you can see the brass through it, so this indicator seems slightly redundant.

I can tell you mine is a 2016 and does NOT have one. I hope these are not going to be standard issue from now on, totally unnecessary since you can see the rim as you noted.

It is normal too see the case in the chamber on the P-07/09 pistols but that lci is a new addition. From the looks of it though you could purchase an earlier extractor for a P-07 and do away with the lci.

Works for times when it's dark and/or you can't see/look at the pistol.

I remember explaining/showing my wife the loaded chamber indicator on the XDMs.  Sometimes a feature is unnoticed/unused - until exactly the right circumstances occur.

I remember thinking, when my M&Ps were having the light strike/no strike problems how nice it would have been to have a cocked striker indicator - like the XDM's have.  Would have saved me some time/effort.

As long as the new design doesn't create an issue with either proper extractor operation or early failure I'd not object to it.  I sometimes get the urge to buy another 9MM P07 but I don't really need one, not really, really, that's the way I feel, sometimes.

This CZ thing can bite you pretty bad, sometimes.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Interesting. That was a feature on the MHS test pistols.

Thanks for the responses. I should also clarify, the indicator doesn't pop up when a bullet is loaded, but rather the extractor moves inward under tension from the loaded round, leaving the metal peg exposed. The indicator itself remains static, and is about in line with the cocking serrations.

Stuart wasn't far off.

Just found this article and this P09 has the same indicator as mine. Looks like maybe I got a left over part on my pistol. Curious if this will be standard going forward.

Good feature, honestly. As said previously, good for low to no light situations.

Now I'll be disappointed if the one I ordered arrives without it. LCIs on teh extractor are my favorite, but I've never seen one like that before.  Thanks for posting the pic!

Mine also came with the new magazines but the follower is black instead of orange. But it has the new cut in it. Maybe my gun got thrown together with left over parts!

I've never seen one like that before.  I'm not usually a fan of LCIs but I think I could live with that one.  I kind of like it....I think.

When I had this pistol , it  was no problem feeling that there was one in the chamber even in the dark and when it was in the holster . It's on top of the slide and would pop up with one in the chamber.
Click on the gallery and look at the top of the slide.
