SAR CM9 Gen 2 Wow...
« on: May 04, 2017, 06:33:10 PM »
Just held a used one in a shop, as I am considering a polymer clone (like a 941).

Never saw one of these other than pics, and I picked it up, and goodness - WHAT a trigger.  Light smooth DA, and the SA has a beautifully crips wall that sets EVERY TIME.  The trigger is like a SIG Legion.  The gun seems a bit thick, but handles well and the grip fills the hand perfectly.  Easy to grab the slide for a CZ style gun.  Mag release is just out of reach, and the mags look like 17 Rd MG.

What is support like for these things?  Holsters?  How do you dump the dumb adjustable sights?  Any NS available?  Is the barrel really hard chromed?

Thanks.

Nice looking pistol. Did the one you looked at have the Novak style sights? Ambidextrous? Those are both cool features. I like the aggressive slide serrations, too. Those are always a plus in cycling the slide on a CZ pattern.

I am not so hot on molded finger grips.... I have big hands with thin fingers. Those things never seem to work well for me. It does seem to look a little thick, maybe artificially so, judging from the way the frame is molded above the grip.

I don't know if EAA is still handling SAR, but if so, it is standard EAA service. I really don't know much about this pistol, but in my experience, most CZ pattern pistols do well in a SIG P226 holster.

I got two shooting sessions on mime ,works great. Only issue was a couple of rough plastic spots on the grip , took care of that with a little 400 grit sand paper. great shooter ,great price.

The sights are the same as the K2P - again, they are there for import NOT for serious use.

Were there options for the K2P??

Clearly CZ has been surpassed in technology in terms of trigger.  Why doesn't CZ UB fess up and adopt what is better?  The DA on this thing feels like 9 LBs and smooth as silk.  The SA has a REAL wall - like a SIG, not like one on a CZ or even a Witness that is sometimes bypassed.  Don't get me wrong - the CZ is USEABLE and accurate OTB, but it is stagey, creepy, and 'variable'.

EAA/SAR/IWI need to wise up and make a real compact version that takes CZ Compact mags - not the silly EAA short grip that always comes with LONG mag bases and only gives you one less round and a long grip anyway.  Wake up folks.

Safe to buy used?  Saw one for $250.

Examined it again today.  One thing I DON'T like other than than the cheesy sights.  The front end plastic is flimsy.  You can squeeze it like tupperware.  The IMI 941 and CZ P09 are NOT like that.  I'm not certain i trust the polymer now.

I didn't find the from end to be any flimsier than a lot of other plastic guns are. I don't have any qualms about the polymer holding up.

Nor should you.  It'll be fine.  Did you get the stainless slide or black one?  I'd nab a stainless in a heartbeat if they weren't $50+ more than the black one.   :-\

It is noticeably softer than CZ, Glock, SIG, MP, and any other polymer gun I've ever handled. Just pinch the front end. Easy to see.

The $64,000 question is... So what? It is not integral to the functioning of the gun. I suppose there is an outside chance  that in some unforeseen circumstance it might impede the slide. I really don't see it happening,  but I'll concede the possibility. Realistically, would I like a little sturdier plastic, sure, why not? But then again, why? If the rest of the frame is sturdy enough to do the job, why worry about things that really make no difference?

So What?
Cuz it MIGHT matter.  It could be an anomaly in manufacturing. I have seen a thread on an FNX where someone had some grip flex that was NOT right, and many others said that theirs was stiff - so this was a QC problem.  OR, it could be that SAR is using softer polymer.  More frame flex, and maybe it doesn't matter, but my educated guess is that every proven manufacturer of polymer guns (those that have much LE/Mil use) are/should be the norm, and if their plastic is stiffer - it is stiffer for a reason - it is better for the gun design in general.

Remember that CZ changed its polymer on the P07 and Phantom?  There is a reason - and I would posit that it mattered.

So, it gave me enough pause that I passed.  I am STILL amazed at the trigger, and that CZ doesn't just rip off the trigger design.

Obviously it matters to you, you made your choice and really, I am OK with that. But Ford bumpers flex more than Chevy bumpers. Both work OK.
One could argue that stiffer polymer is more brittle, therefore more prone to cracking. Different is not necessarily bad, just different. It may be a QC problem, it may be the polymer was not 100%, but was within tolerance, or it may just be the new norm.  It *is* different, and if different bothers you, I don't blame you, but you were implying something was wrong, which is probably not the case

I'll say that the industry standard is stiffer than this sample of one.

I got the black one. It's just not worth $50 or more to get a stainless one, IMHO.

I got a variety of poly guns here for transfer right now and the reality is at the very front I can flex them all even a Glock. Now from a baking stand point during the refinishing process the companies with the poorest quality poly frames are Kahr small pistols ,Beretta PX4 Storm frames and HK, Springfield XD's come in fourth. Glock comes in 1st with the best poly frames Gen 3 on back , Gen 4 is not as good. I have coated a number of Sar poly frames with no issues. They are not number one in poly quality, however they are not bad. The sights on the Sar CM 9 are okay and yes there is not any after market support to speak of. With all that said it is a good entry level 9 mm basic combat shooter ,good accuracy very good ergonomics, will take CZ mags which I have a lot of and it only cost me $308.00 with the shipping. Trigger is very good as well.
