CGW floating trigger pin?
« on: May 21, 2017, 08:40:35 PM »
Hello all, in an effort to cure the trigger sting that I am getting from my PCR, I purchased a 85c trigger. I also purchased the full floating trigger pin, and reduced power trigger return spring from CGW.
After the install, I noticed that the trigger pin tends to "walk" to the left. After it walks, on the left side, the pin protrudes approx. .010", and on the right side, it sinks into the hole approx .025".
I completely centered the pin when I started, and within 10 trigger pulls, it shifts to the left. I repeated this a few times, then took of the slide to see what is happening.
The reduced power spring, seems to "torque over" towards the left when the trigger is pulled, and it takes the trigger pin with it.

My guess is the small detent cuts are preventing it from walking further, but to test this, I pushed the pin with a ball point pen. Using a pen will push the the trigger pin past the spring fairly easily.

Now, I am aware even a push from a pen is more side load than is normally encountered, I am a bit concerned.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any need to be concerned? Is there any trick to prevent the walking? Would the factory strength trigger return spring secure the CGW pin any better than the reduced power spring?

Thank you for any help you can provide

Rich

That's why it's called a floating trigger pin. Yes it will move a little one way or the other but it won't come out and its travel is limited by the TR spring if it's installed correctly. Sounds normal to me. If it is bothersome degrease the left trigger pin hole, the left side of the trigger pin and put a drop of blue Loc-Tite in the hole, push the pin back in and let it cure for 24 hours. That will hold it in place until you need to disassemble it again. Just make sure the hole and pin are completely degreased and don't get any LT on the trigger assembly inside.

Thank you folks. Yes indeed it is in correctly, as is the spring. As long as it doesn't walk any further to the left, and the detent does it's job ( the spring catches it) then all should be good. I just wanted to hear from others with experience with these exact parts.

Thank you all again

Same problem with my Shadow 2. At the end you'll get use to it, but I will agree it does get annoying.

We had to design the center section of the pin so it would accept all variations of the trigger return spring.

For instance the stock spring is quite a bit wider than the reduced power CGW spring.  So one size had to fit all, and luckily it works fine.
