Disconnector Explanation Please
« on: May 23, 2017, 07:07:53 PM »
Hi All,

I recently started in IPSC in Australia and I have purchased a Shadow 2. I want to tune my gun and still stay in the Production Division so I have been doing my research and so far the only thing that has caused me some confusion is the disconnector. I have been advised to get a 0.00 or a 0.02 because I find I am reaching for the trigger so in my mind the disconnector affects how far away the trigger will sit from the grip however I also read somewhere that it controls how far your trigger moves during firing, not how far it sits from the grip. Which of these is correct and what do the 0.00 or 0.02 actually mean in terms of the disconnector measurements?

Thanks In Advance,

Dave

Welcome to the forums.

I am unclear what "0.00 or a 0.02" are, i have never heard the terms used before now. I assume that your question is about the Single Action pull.

In SA, the disconector affects the at rest trigger position. It limits the triggers forward movement after the SA reset. If it did not do this the trigger would continue forward and the Double Action would reset. Because the disconector limits SA trigger position it also affects the overall SA trigger travel.

The inside surface of the disconector hook is the part that affects the SA. The disconector hangs over the rear of the trigger bar and limits the trigger bars forward movement.

Here are some reference pictures that may help. The disco is likely the most confusing part in a CZ pistol.

This points out the area of the dico that affect the SA.

This is an example of how the two parts interface.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

So you see, as in Tok's pic it is the hook that pulls the trigger back when you cock the hammer manually or otherwise.

With the factory one and production tolerances, you will still notice some pre-travel before the sear catches and things start to move when fireing.

With a custom fitted one, this pre-travel can be reduced, which naturally brings a trigger a bit further back so there is little or no lost movement, however there needs to be some clearance so the action may reset reliably.

The wings on the side of the hook effect DA reset and break points as well so DA/SA timing works in harmony.

Ah I see thanks for the info. I am assuming the 0.00 or 0.02 are the tolerance or distance between the reset as I asked Robin Sebo whether a 0.00 would bring the trigger closer than a 0.02 and he said yes but he uses a 0.02 as a 0.00 is "a bit risky", so I figured that meant if the tolerance is too close it could slap fire when reloading or it may not reset properly. Thanks again!
