Rami Vs Shield Vs....
« on: May 30, 2017, 09:31:44 AM »
I haven't found a lot of pictures comparing the Rami VS the Shield, G43, and other single stack 9's. I'm trying to see why people say it is so chunky, when the measurements put it at about the same width as a G26. If I could find any shops in northern Utah with one I would just go check it out, but I can't find them anywhere.

I know it take a little work, so thank you in advance! Please feel free to throw in your thoughts of the Rami vs single stack 9's. Serve different roles, interchangeable in roles, ease concealement vs PCR and compacts and the single stacks, and anything else. I know the Shield has a great following, so I don't want to insight bashing... just getting an idea about the Rami.

Just wrote a long reply, but the internet ate it.
In summary, 43 conceals best (duh), but capacity is possibly an issue.
26 conceals worst for me.
RAMI is the best compromise...and is now my main carry.
For me, AIWB is the preferred carry position.
If you go AIWB, find a holster that has the belt clip on the side (I.E. over the trigger guard), instead of on top of the slide (the widest part). Makes a noticeable difference in "slimness" of the overall package.

I am a huge self admitted CZ fan but for me the Shield wins in CCW.

I have a P01 that I carry as well and when it's button up shirt, sweater, or light jacket I carry the P01.

The shield gets carried at all other time. I carry it in gym shorts and a t shirt most of the time. My days off are spent in lounge clothes mostly so it's what get used the most.

The rami doesn't offer too much of a benefit to me over the shield besides capacity. If I need more rounds I just move up to the P01.

I really enjoy having the shield.

Yanked the following data from this article:

Added in stats from CZ USA site. Just figured I would throw the data in here to get it out of the way and we can hear about the perceptions of these differences in the various situations of carry.

What sort of work or daily tasks are you doing? I like appendix carry a lot, but when I am sitting all day at a desk job it sometimes gets annoying (with the nicest holsters and thinnest pistols). Have you just gotten used to it while sitting? Have you tried something like the Urban Carry if you are sitting a lot?

What type of holsters have you tried and like for the gym shorts?

When carrying the P01 are you carrying appendix? And do you spend a lot of time sitting when you work? As I mentioned to Meridian, sitting all day at work makes me really like the idea of pocket carry... Weight isn't too much an issue, as much as barrel length making the holder longer and thereby more annoying.

Thanks again for the replies!

I bought a cheap universal belly band set up from Amazon.

I am a bigger guy and carry appendix.
I am 6 foot 260 and have a gut. When I am standing I push the belly band down low below my stomach. When sitting I pull the belly band up around my belly button. It works well for me. I also use this method with a traditional belt and holster.

Ahh, I forgot about the belly bands! I used to use one before I tried off body and appendix. I am going to go dig it out and see if it is still good. Thanks for sharing!

I do sit a lot (driving job), and appendix works well for this, IMO.
Haven't tried Urban Carry, and have no plans to, because I've found what works for me.
Sitting, moving, bending, yard work, shooting hoops with the kids...it all works for me with a good, kydex, single-clip AIWB holster and a 43 or a RAMI.

I agree witth Kenneth, I love my RAMI but the Shield gets carried more, especially in the warmer months.  I just can't carry IWB so both get carried OWB in a leather pancake holster.  I can conceal the Shield without an extra shirt.  I feel I need to wear a button up shirt over the RAMI to conceal it. BUT, it does shoot better and feels better in my hand.  Just love the gun and is my hiking/camping gun.

SP ... It's all a matter of perspective.  I've never been a fan of the "smallish" single stack 9mm (Shield, LC9, etc.) as they feel very awkward in my larger than average hands.  The RAMI is the smallest pistol in my carry rotation and in my experience can be easily concealed with minimal effort (I carry IWB at 4:00).  The .25" difference in width IMHO is much ado about nothing. YMMV

Whew.... This makes it even more tricky! Considering I absolutely can not find a 9mm Rami w safety anywhere right now I'll just sit and stew about it.

I own and carry CCW both the Rami in 9mm and the Shield in .40.  I typically carry the shield in an IWB holster and it pretty much disappears. But I am not pleased with how it shoots.  While I have invested a lot of rounds in learning how to hit where I want to hit, the Rami shot dead on from the beginning.  I did add the new ends to the magazines and replaced the sights with ones from XS on the Rami.  Bottom line, I carry the Rami in an OWB holster almost all of the time.  Yes, it is a little harder to conceal than the IWB, but from a comfort perspective well worth it.

Currently carrying the RAMI in a Haugen OWB Leather Model 31 Speed Scabbard. I just wear a Linen or cotton long sleeve shirt un-tucked, and unbuttoned as a cover garment.

Scarlet Pistol, for sweats or shorts, I have been using a Sig P938 with Hogue grips, and a modified 8 round Sig 290 mag, in a IWB Kydex holster with belt clip. Purchase sweat pants or gym shorts with a drawstring waist, and I have found if you put the clip just in front of your hip bone (2:30 or 9:30) and tighten the drawstring, it holds well.

Thanks for sharing! I'm amidst bartering, trading, and having a good time to work my way to a Rami.
