Shooting my P-09 at local competition

I bought my P-09 last year to move into USPSA Limited / IDPA ESP (and away from SS/CDP).  I ended up getting a great deal on it for only $380 with price match at Budsgunshop.  I did a video of a local competition to help promote non-weekend matches in my shooting community.  I thought some of you might find it interesting as well.  Even though I had some mental mistakes, I still managed to finish 7th of 44 overall and 4th of 27 in Limited.  In the next three months, I'll be shooting the USPSA New Mexico Sectional, Texas Paper and Iron, and the New Mexico IDPA Championship.  I've been trying to get more involved on Youtube, so hopefully I'll make videos for those as well.

Awesome man!  Can't wait to get back into IDPA!  That was my first thought the first time I shot my P-09 was that it would be a great IDPA gun!  I shoot it  just about as accurately as any of my 1911's except maybe my Dan Wesson VBOB. Wow, where did you find it for $380?  That's a steal!  Did you do any mods to it before shooting in IDPA?  I haven't done anything to mine other than change sights. May send it in to get DA lightened up a little. Thanks for the vid, good run!  Got me pumped to get back out there!

That looks like a lot of fun and not a difficult match to set up for a Thursday night.  Good video, too.  I live in Midland but spend some time in Ruidoso, which is Cowboy Action country.

Thanks for the complements.  The gun isn't heavily modified, and one of the best things about it is that it doesn't need a trigger job.  I'm sure a trigger job could make it better, but it doesn't need one for cocked and locked shooting.  Let's see, I clipped a couple links off the main spring, added a magwell and grip tape, and added magazine extensions as well.  The only real custom part is an extended safety I made with JB weld and half a washer, which is an idea I got from here.  Nobody offering an extended safety is one of the real downsides of the gun, but there are ways around it.  The fixed sights were dead on, so I skipped getting a set of adjustable ones.  I also added a CGW's steel guide rod and reduced recoil spring.  The factory guide rod would actually unscrew itself while shooting, even with blue loctite.  I never lost it, but it was annoying and cheap to fix.

I bought it last summer when Buds was selling it in the low $400's, but used their price match feature to get it down to $380.  It's in 40 and for some reason they had that one discounted almost $100 compared to 9mm.  Then, I just load minor and major PF loads and use the pistol for everything.  I've easily got more money in accessories and magazines than I do the pistol.

Oh right, exactly!  I think you're the only other person I've heard agree with me about the stock trigger being very good right out of the box. I know a lot of people upgrade the trigger before they've even shot it. Sure it can be made even better but other stuff I'd spend the money on first.
Ohhh that's why it was so cheap, it's .40. Lots of people and LE agencies dropping .40 for 9mm.  Sounds like a handy safety you made yourself there, yeah I think just about all CZs have a pretty crappy factory safety. Some even actually unusable without having to change your grip on the gun to manipulate it (like the Shadow 2 but at least they provide an extra extended one)
I agree wish there were more aftermarket parts for the P09. I did swap my sights out for fiber optic front/black rear. Wow I'll have to keep an eye on the guide rod, haven't noticed that on mine yet but only have about 200 rds in it. Yeah I definitely can't foresee ever parting with this pistol or my P-07. Man, your video and gun have me pumped to try and get back out there doing IDPA. Have a bad back I'm trying to recover from, but the minute I held that P-09 in my hands I immediately thought IDPA!  Shooting it confirmed that. Here's mine, I used the Talon grips on mine, love those things.

Tanner's has had similar pricing on P-09 .40 cal in their GunBroker listings.

Using the videos available why don't you disassemble it and polish it yourself??
I never handled a pistol until a year-and-a-half ago and with these videos I was able to disassemble and reassemble myself it's not a big deal actually very easy.

Heck I'm not a gunsmith but I ought to start a business of polishing the internals.
I wonder if I could legally do that if somebody sent me a pistol with no Barrel and no recoil spring, just the frame and slide.

Oh yeah I've already had it completely apart and back together again no problem. First thing I did when I got it home like I have always done with my new toys since I was a kid...my toys just cost a lot more now   the trigger is already smooth throughout the pull, but might want to shorten the pre-travel distance. But then again might not touch it either

Then why do you need to send it out to have the DA. Lightened? Put in a 15 pound hammer spring and a reduced power firing pin spring you'll be good to go along with the polishing should do it.
Check the pull weight with a trigger gauge, if you have one , if you know what it is ,what is it

I shoot my P-07 in competition too. IDPA and our spin off of IDPA GADPA.

Mine is pretty heavily modified. I polished the internals, Short reset kit from CGW and their hammer. Lighter hammer and trigger spring and SS guide rod.

My SA is 3# and my DA is 5.5#. I shoot mine decocked because I can not reliably reach any CZ safety without shifting my grip.

The P-09/P-07 is not bad out of the box and will suit 90% of shooters. After two friends shot mine they went out and bought new ones for $404 online.  Trigger is way harder than mine but still very usable.

I just moved to NM and I have been looking for local shooting clubs.  I'm in Alamogordo (Holloman AFB) so the LC-IDPA isn't too far away!!

If you like the PO 9 stock condition.
 you don't know what you're missing by not changing the springs and doing the internal polishing.  It transforms your $450 decent shooter into a thousand-dollar incredible shooter.
 the potential for this gun is far beyond what you've already experienced. JMHO
