Upgraded 40 S&W 75 B
« on: June 17, 2017, 11:07:27 PM »
When the masses move in one direction, I generally do the opposite.
Of late it appears that 40 S&W is falling from favor.
So, there are bargains to be had. I've always been a fan of the "low hanging fruit".
Grabbed a cheap old 40 as a project gun with a goal of setting it up for my club's service pistol matches.
Did a complete action polishing, added Cajun springs, firing pin and comp hammer.
10X bushing.  Had a machinist friend mill the slide for a Tactical Sport adjustable sight.
Just finishing load development. Currently using a Missouri coated 170 LSWC over 3.3 Bullseye. 766 FPS.
Plan to begin serious testing and practice next week.

Very similar. That was one of the attractions of it.
Someday it may become one..

Very cool!

Limited to low cap mags where I live, and handloading much of my ammo, the 75B in .40 is one of my all time favorites.

Picked up a 75B in 40 recently at a gun show. Traded a Ruger American 45 and a little cash for it. Used it yesterday in a bowling pin competition. I am well pleased with it. I am one of those who actually prefer the 40.

Definitely a great trade.
What load did you use for pins?
My club shoots them at 25 yards...

"We" did this once before.  "We" is the US.

Back in the early 80's we were told the 9MM was the best thing about there and the military and police departments across the country dropped their handguns of various different calibers and moved, in mass, to the 9mm.

Within a few years they were looking for something else and the 10MM and .40 S&W were born.  The reason?  Poor real life performance from a caliber/round that was hyped up based on computer modeling, gel testing and opinions of doctors and other professionals.

Once again, we are being told that the "new" hollow point bullets make the 9MM the equal, or even better, of many larger calibers available/in use.

Not trying to start any arguments.  I'm old enough to remember the early 80's (I was in LE then) and remember reading all the tests/results/opinions in the LE publications at the time.  We did other testing (not nearly as professional/expensive as in the magazines) and settled on the S&W 686 and 125 grain hollow points in .357 magnum.

I do not mind the recoil of the .40 S&W.  I carry my P07 .40 S&W almost every time I leave the house to go run errands, shop or visit people.  If a 9 "gets it done" then a .40 has got to "get it done better".
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I use that same bullet in my .40 S&W 75B that I had CGW convert to SAO and do the same thing to the sights you did.  One of my favorite and most accurate pistols to shoot.  I use 4.2gr of W231 (David at CGW gave me that load info), but have plenty of Bullseye so will have to give your load a try too.

Also, if you do want a 9mm on the same gun, all you need to do is fit an SP-01 barrel and get the correct recoil spring.  I use the dual caliber mags (Mecgar with Blue follower) that will hold 17 rds of 9mm or 12 rds of .40 and it takes about 30 seconds to change calibers.

The wheels are turning in head. I have a tanfo match elite in 40 and I also have a 75bd and thinking about going all cz. I like this idea!

First Match Win for Upgraded 40 S&W 75 B
« Reply #10 on: June 24, 2017, 07:32:34 PM »
Shot the 40 in today's club match. Mixed targets, plates and poppers from 10 to 25 yards.
First place. The CZ generated a lot of interest and several others asked to try it afterwards.
Lots of questions and conversation. May have made a few converts to CZ.
