Availability of the 97

Well, after some serious searching, I found a B that is local for $622.  I 'want' a BD.  Exchanged an email with CZ USA, and located a local stocking dealer.  He has 2 BD's on order.  I dropped $600 as a deposit, and will pay the rest when it gets in.  Cheaper than paying for the Tru-Dots, and installation.  Now to wait...........he has had these on order since February.

Yeah, I was hoping for aluminum grips too.  I did not realize the aluminum grips were not on the California model. The grips this one comes with are okay but the trigger is pretty far forward so I thought aluminum grips might help. But then I thought, I am getting the Reach Reduction Kit installed when I get the "E" Package so now I think I may get the standard rubber grips instead. Have to wait and see.

Have to wonder if these CA models are new production, or old first generation ones?
Guess I will be finding out soon.

I replaced the aluminum with the rubber grips. I did like the aluminum, nice and slim, but once i put the rubbers on they are more comfortable and grippy in the hand.

I replaced mine with wood. Much more grippy for me.

What's different about the Cali model?

From what I have read, it's the model discontinued in 2013.
Wood grips, not aluminum.
Dot front sight, not fiber optic.
Hope that's all.

MY 97 BD came stock with the thin aluminum grips and  Night sights.
  I liked the thin Aluminum grips well but I replaced them with the regular CZ rubber grips, that grip just fits my hand better than anything else I have tried.
MY 97 is a really sweet shooter and my 1911's just don't get out of the safe much anymore.

I wonder what else makes it California Compliant. Mag disconnect and ??

I think what makes it California Compliant is that it was already sold in California before January 1, 2001, the date the California "Roster of Handguns Approved for Sale" became effective. Any change made to that model makes it a different model for California and then becomes subject to all the requirements made since December 31, 2000.

From what I can tell the newer model of the CZ 97B is the change to a fiber optic front sight and aluminum grips, and that constitutes a new model in California. That is also why the 97 BD cannot be sold to non-Leo types.

Wow that is really interesting. So its the same model that is being offered today but once there were changes made to the gun ...  ie grips and sight ... it has to be re approved by California.

Guess its a question for another forum but do gun makers have to submit any new guns to some California authority to get listed as an approved gun or can they just make a gun that meets all the requirements and sell it there. Really just curious.

If the Cali approved gun is everything the newer ones are minus grips and front sight then maybe I can find one a little cheaper than new new stock!

The California model will be much more expensive for me because I will replace the front sight with a FO sight and I have already ordered new grips (LOK Bogies).
