CZ 550FS incoming
« on: June 30, 2017, 07:34:02 PM »
Hey everyone,

I ordered my first CZ yesterday, and hope to be able to pick it up by the end of next week. I would like to go ahead and order a leather sling, but am not sure what size I would need for this rifle. Hoping some of you that own one of these can offer a bit of advice. I am 6" 190lbs if that info is needed. Average build.

Thanks! I will be sure to post some pictures once it comes in  :)

What kind of sling would you want, just a leather strap, or a Rhodesian/Ching style sling?

Hey,

I would like a simple leather strap, maybe something like this (sorry if not allowed to post outside links) https://www.etsy.com/listing/228451491/leather-rifle-sling-gun-sling-adjustable?ref=related-2

Have a few leather slings; couple are fancy, some plain. Never found them very practical in the field. My go-to style is a nylon sling with a quick adjustable feature. Sorry can't remember the brand but it has a tab you push out on or pull in to adjust the length. I find it really handy since I move a sling from gun to gun. I'll get the brand when I get home.

I don't like stretchy slings. It sounds good in theory but found it just bounces around and bangs me. Of course I walk like a dinosaur so that might be my problem.

Always thought having a sling that holds a couple of rounds was cool. Took some grief from older hunters but those 2 rounds saved the day on an elk hunt when I forgot my spare ammo pouch.

Here is a picture of my CZ 550 FS 6.5x55 with the sling installed, alongside my grandfather's old 30-40 Krag.  I like the old military style slings, and prefer the standard 1.25" width, but the CZ has smaller sling mounts.  I still have the original sling for the Krag, with the date 1916 stamped into it, but I took it off for safe-keeping.  I guess it has earned its retirement after 100+ years.

Thanks for the picture! I am going to have to pick one of those up. Got another question for you, since you own the same model/caliber. Is the follower steel or plastic? From what I understand the new ones have a plastic floor plate which is a bit disappointing, but I am not sure about the follower.
