Brand new PCR owner needs some help.
« on: July 01, 2017, 11:21:08 AM »
Hi everyone, I am a brand new PCR owner and I have a few questions in hoping to get some answers.

1 - the DA on my new gun is very heavy, to the point I feel uncomfortable to pull the trigger.  how much better would it gets after a few hundreds rounds?  or should I replace the spring for lighter DA trigger pull ?  and what spring you would recommend?

2 - the stock grip on the gun feels great, but its kinda too big for my rather small hand, I am looking for to replace it for thinner grips. G10 or Alum ?  any recommendation ?

3 - would dry fire alot damage the PCR in anyway ?  or should I buy some snap-caps just for safe.

4 - any other upgrade on the gun is worth mention ?

any tips and advices is greatly appreciate, thanks for your time.

Congrats on your new PCR! You will love it. I will throw in my 2-cents worth just because it's Saturday.

1. The trigger will get smoother a little with use. I installed Cajun's #54420 Ultra-Lite kit ($49)  and the #75585 Old Style Trigger($42) myself and it made a noticeable difference.

2. I have since installed VZ G-10 Grips. I can't speak to aluminum grips but I am sold on the VZ G-10. I used the PCR in a USPSA match and the grips fit my hand perfectly.

3. My suggestion is to use snap caps to avoid damaging the firing pin. They're cheap so why not?

4. You will get all kinds of advise here. I can only tell you that I finally sent in my PCR to Cajun Gun Works for there custom Defense Package. Ended up with a great shooting pistol with a DA of about 5 lbs. and SA of 3.25 lbs. If you plan to carry for self-defense then I suggest you consider a trigger pull of closer to 6.5 / 4 lbs. But that's just my opinion. Take a look at what is offered by David at CGW. He is the expert and accepts questions.

Congrats!
The trigger should get better, mine have after a few hundred rounds and a lot of dry firing. I use #83 O rings from home depot for about $3 for 10 of them.  VZ G-10s are great! I've also bought stainless steel guide rods.
Enjoy, PCRs are awesome pistols!

1- Can I get the Ultra-Lite kit only for lighter pull or I have to buy both ?

2- Can I DIY with the Ultra-Lite kit ?  or it better done by a gunsmith.

Rubber bumper pads for the mags are also good when you can find them.  16 round mags for the compact are also available.
Dry firing smoothened the trigger quite a bit.
Good luck!

You can install the ultra-lite, if you watch the videos and are very patient. The trigger change form just added comfort.

I put the Ultralite kit in my 75 Compact. It made a great gun even better(along with Truglo TFOs.). I'm going to shoot my PCR some before doing any mods.

There was substantial improvement of the trigger after 500 rounds. I didn't go to an aftermarket trigger, and haven't regretted it one bit. Maybe if you are a competitive shooter it is worth the bucks, but not for me (if it were, it would be for my SP-01 and not the PCR).

I did replace the factory sights, which I found difficult to use if the sun was even slightly in front of me.

On all my CZ after a few hundred rounds the weapon smoothed down very nicely.
I have a P-01. Sp-01, 97 BD, and a Shadow 2.
Now I have lightened the trigger pull and hammer drop  on all but the shadow.
the thing is to keep the weapon at a reliable  state if using it as a defense weapon and a PCR it likely is.
so what I am saying don't give up reliability (the ammo going BANG ) when you pull the trigger just to achieve a match grade trigger.
I reload and so I can play around a bit with different primers etc to make the weapon more reliable, with factory ammo you can't do that.
being a reloader I also have dummy cartridges that have no powder and a spent (used ) primer in them to use as a snap cap, but if doing a lot of dry firing I would buy snap caps just to be safe.
Just my 2 cents.

SRS-1 Short Reset System    does this reduce trigger and reset at the same time?   if so I think I just gonna get this.
